Guest stnami Posted February 4, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted February 4, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) So it seems that the D3 did not bury the D2..... So did the M8 murder the D2? Not good enough! Sold, sitting in a closet, banished to the 'I will never see it again' while waiting for a M8. What's the latest!!!? Mine is still putting bread in my jar, no I am not temped with the m until next year besides too hard to get in Ritehereinmybakyard
stunsworth Posted February 4, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted February 4, 2007 I would expect that Panasonic stopped making them. Leica had a contract for a certain number. When they're gone, they're gone.
Guest stnami Posted February 4, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted February 4, 2007 That I know Steve, and so be it, but I am talking about the D2/LC1s in circulation . are they just cast aside..........
stunsworth Posted February 4, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted February 4, 2007 No idea Imants, perhaps people like them so much they don't want to sell.
Riley Posted February 4, 2007 Share #5  Posted February 4, 2007 there was a rumor Panasonic were going to produce a 4/3 interchangeable lens with EVF which sounds awfully like it doesnt it  personally, I would be happy even with a fixed zoom, especially at F2 somewhat wider would be nice too those files at 5Mp are a bit thin, but it still has the IQ I like  Leica if you are listening, this should be the next camera slightly smaller body like with E-410/E-400 nice simple dialogue menus hey, even a cantankerous lightweight AA filter if i can get 1/2 of what M8 does, I would pay the $2,5Gs
elgenper Posted February 4, 2007 Share #6  Posted February 4, 2007 That I know Steve, and so be it, but I am talking about the D2/LC1s in circulation . are they just cast aside..........  Well mine is NOT, and isn´t likely to be... I have a Nikon D200 with the 17-55/2.8 lens, a fast combo that runs rings around my D2 when trying to photograph running dogs or kids. And the finder makes the D2 EVF look like a bad joke.  But when walking leisurely around town or in the woods, the D2 is small, light and quiet. It does what I want it to, and the final images hold their own beside the Nikon´s, despite having half as many pixels. But they are LEICA Pixels....  No, I´m not going to retire my D2, thank you! Imants, get yours back to work as well; your images prove that you know how to use it!
Guest stnami Posted February 4, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted February 4, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Its next major outing, yes out of the closet, is the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras on the 3rd March. Daytime at 100iso, close up flash at 46mm, along with the GRD doing 21mm B&W stuff and a Pentax at 1600iso for low light stuff. Flash job..... spylaw4 Posted February 4, 2007 Share #11 Â Posted February 4, 2007 I'm keeping hold of mine - even if I venture D3/L1-wards. BTW I notice an increased number on that auction site at the moment which seems to be leading to a lowering of prices, more's the pity (unless you want to pick one up of course). Riley Posted February 4, 2007 Share #12 Â Posted February 4, 2007 Ive noticed that too Brian I think this potential sensor fault has something to do with it it began about the same time
dugby Posted February 4, 2007 Share #13 Â Posted February 4, 2007 Despite discovering how good my new D3/L1 shoots, over my D2,....i will keep my D2. Â For me the D2 has very narrow sweet spot for shooting, so I will chose to use it when those opportunities arise, as it's "Quieter" and smaller light-weight keeps it attractive to me..... it is no doubt the "poorer-man's M8" Â For slow shooting, in good light and deliberate shots the D2 still excels. Â For faster on the go street shooting the D3/L1 does the job better (despite the clunk-wizz of the mirror) than the D2.....and the clunk is not much louder than an M6 shutter, but it's the wizz that gives it away as an SLR. stuny Posted February 4, 2007 Share #14 Â Posted February 4, 2007 On my last journey I used the DMR almost exclusively (The FX01, which I brought for underater work did some dry work before getting flooded), and the D2 stayed home due to how much we were already carrying (SCUBA during vactions adds too much bulk to our carry-on packng). The D2 is presently touring the Solms plant for a sensor replacement and should be back around 1st of March. I have no plans to set it asside or sell it. It's performance and specialized advantages are just too great. I'll also bring it along to Botswana and Namibia later this year primarily as backup to the DMR. audidudi Posted February 4, 2007 Share #15  Posted February 4, 2007 if i can get 1/2 of what M8 does, I would pay the $2,5Gs  Likewise! I'm presently on vacation in Kauai and brought both my LC1/D2 and L1/D3 along as I find them to be compliments of one another rather than replacements. If there was a single $2500 camera that combined the best of both into one, I'd whip a credit card out of my wallet so fast the plastic would melt! In fact, I think I'd even buy one if it had an M8 price tag, as the reason I've not bought one of those so far isn't the price of the body but the price of the three lenses I'd need to buy for it...
