Pecole Posted May 1, 2011 Share #1 Posted May 1, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) These are two exceptional Leicas, not only because they are relatively scarce and sought after by collectors, but also due to their serial numbers. The two models in the Fontenelle Collection displayed serials 357382 for the "72" (IIIf 18x24 engraved Midland) and 359272 for the IIIa "Monté en Sarre". These serials are both included in sequences left "blank" in the list published by Laney and others, and also not recorded in the original Leitz production books : 357201 to 358500 and 358651 to 360000. These serials pertain to the troubled period of the war and immediately afterwards, and shippings are recorded between 1940 and 1970 ! Both our cameras were basically IIIa, but the 72 has the f model synchro system and film reminder winding knob. Welcome, dear visitor!
