I have quite a few Leica made lenses for my M8, some from my film days and some purchased on Ebay for my M8 recently. Of all my lenses, Noctilux included, the 35mm Voigtlander Nokton f1.2 amazes me more than any other for its fast f1.2 speed, moderate contrast, incredible bokeh, color, and great price.

For the M8, this is my favorite lens.

So who on this forum uses the Nokton and feels the same way I do?

I will post some of my favorite pics with the Nokton and M8

My Daughter with a colorful hat. I love the way the background just melts away and the colors that are not too overwhelming.

Of corse, the M8 and its sensor are key to all of this, and I would think of nothing else to use , except maybe an M9 when I can afford it!

nice! am interested this lens for my M8 as well. how sharp is it wide open and close focus ?

I had CV35/1.7, maybe a bad copy, but it was poor performer wide open.

jarski:

I find it very sharp considering f 1.2. I own a Noctilux, and the Nokton is much sharper wide open. Now this lens is not a Summicron, so wide open it will not be exactly the same.

I can get closer with this lens than with my Noctilux. Considering the M8 crop factor, the focal length is ideal.

Here is a close up

yes its sharper than CV35 I had before. good antidote while waiting year or two M9 prices to lower a bit

will be interesting to see how new version 2 of this lens will perform.

My understanding is that version 2 of the 35 f1.2 is the same, except for the hood mount. It seems the new lens hood mounts like the Zeiss M mount lenses on the new Nokton. Thats it as far as I know. The glass is the same.

I've read that the glass won't be the same because Cosina Voigtlander can't source the same glass anymore, which is why it's had to discontinue the first version and produce the second version.

With all due respect, if the second version 35/1.2 Nokton is designed and built by the same people who designed and built the new 35/1.4 Nokton and 28/2 Ultron then there's likely to be sample variation, focus shift and back focus. One of the things that has always impressed me about my 35/1.2 Nokton is that such a fast lens is free of focus shift and back focus. We shall have to wait and see ...

I will be getting this lens tomorrow in the mail :D, BUT my M8.2 is not coming until 3 days later. I guess I just have to stare at it awhile lol. I too agree this would be a good combo, thats why I choose this lens given the 1.3 crop factor of the M8.

I've been hesitant to get this lens because of the "softness" wide open, can anyone share some more images made with this lens?

In my opinion, the images in this thread has demonstrated this concern of mine. It has a "fuzzy" feel for me, not that it's not desirable but ... you know, I'd like something sharper.

I am going back and for and back and for, if I should get this lens, while it's available or not.

I like my 35 Lux ASPH v1 a lot, it is permanently on one of the two bodies, I carry with me (a 50 being the other one).

The 35 Lux ASPH though it delivers nicely, sometimes can be a bit boring, being so clean and sharp all over - it's kind of predictable.

The 35 1.2 photos, I see, do seem, to have the magic, I love from the f1 Noctilux.

The only thing, holding me back is the fact, that it seems, it has the size of a Noctilux, which would make it a chore, to haul around, paired with the v4 Noct on the other body.

I am very, very interested in people's opinions, who use both a 35 Lux ASPH and a 35 1.2!

Hey guys! :) Keep the number of examples down a bit please, it is not an image forum, I fear.

 Jaap, there are only 4 images in the thread and they are all showing the performance of the 35/1.2 Nokton - is this not reasonable?

The 35mm F1.2 Nokton is my favorite lens. Two lenses are tied for second, and virtually make up the three lenses I carry around most of the time. They are the Leica 50mm f1.0 Noctilux (late 1990's version) and the Voigtlander 15mm Super Wide Heliar (late version M mount).

I find this combo is superior for me to cover most of the photos I like to take. The 35mm Nokton as a prime general purpose lens. The Noctilux to isolate my subjects and give a glow that is unique to that lens. And the 15mm Super Wide Heliar to take in a large wide angle view with tremendous sharpness and no distortion.

By the way, Noctilux owners can love the Nokton more, but not that much more! I will never sell any of these three lenses! They have done so much for me!!!!

Here is a Noctilux shot of my daughter with an Iphone by the way!
