JohannB Posted March 25, 2013 Share #81 Â Posted March 25, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks Adrian. I am experiencing similar banding with my new M-E. In most cases it was also when shadow detail was increased in LR. But also had cases where it wasn't shadow areas which had banding. Â It is also intermittent. JohannB Posted March 26, 2013 Share #83  Posted March 26, 2013 Not at this stage as it only affected around 20 actuations out of 1500.  I only have the camera now for 4 months and not too willing to send it anywhere  But I will start forwarding the problem photo's to Leica and be more attent on what I was doing when I'm getting banding.  Johann
reubensandwich Posted January 23, 2014 Share #84 Â Posted January 23, 2014 Malvolio, did you ever hear anything else from them on this? I'm experiencing the same problem on my M8 and have contacted the NJ Leica repair shop. I've noticed the horizontal banding on quick consecutive shots where one would have it and the other wouldn't and will be sending them some DNGs to demonstrate as such. But it doesn't really seem to be predictable. Though it might have something to do with the display being on or maybe the SD card...? I'm a little worried that they haven't seemed to have addressed it nearly a year later! I would just like to know *if* they are actively working to resolve it. Â Does actually changing to a beefier SD card seem to resolve for people. I'm going to pick one up tonight and see if it makes a difference... but I do have a 16GB 30MB/s Sandisk card and I'm running into this prob with that. Â ? I had the camera looked at be Leica Service in Melbourne and they indicated that they were not able to replicate the issue. They acknowledged however (cryptically) that Leica Germany is aware of the issue as others have reported the banding issue for some time now. Leica Australia re mapped the sensor and I have to say that it hasn't really arisen since, although to be honest I dont go looking for it.  I recall the banding was always worse with faster cards and when I shot continuously without allowing the buffer to clear. Since I have switched back to basic 4GB Sandisk/Lexar 4GB cards etc and wait for the buffer to clear, I havent noticed any banding.  Good luck
reubensandwich Posted January 23, 2014 Share #86 Â Posted January 23, 2014 I'm going to take a wild guess here and speculate that this problem is being caused by interference from writing (and maybe reading) to the SD card while taking the next shot. I seem to notice this problem the most if I take a few shots in quick succession. The first one doesn't appear to exhibit the problem, but the second or third usually does. If this is the case, I can try to work around it. Although, it would be nice if Leica could fix it. Â I can almost always prevent it by taking one single shot, waiting for the next one to be written until the light goes off and then taking another. Â This is probably why Leica couldn't easily resolve the problem. I note that SDHC support was added to the M8 after shipping, so this is something that maybe wasn't completely tested as thoroughly as one might expect... Â Just speculation, but I've been stress testing it for the past few hours. I seem to be able to prevent it and my battery is almost completely empty at this point -- no bars left, just an outline. Â I'd rather avoid sending my camera in if possible. Also, I note that a few people are talking about the CCD bloom style banding, or hot pixel effects or whatever. The issue I'm having is none of those things. It is exactly the same one as what this guy is running into: http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-114124.html ( in particular, isorgb's second picture: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7141/6421054335_d27fa00ee3_o.jpg )
lct Posted January 23, 2014 Share #87 Â Posted January 23, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Not sure if it comes from the card but i would format mine with SD Formatter just in case. Would be good for your card anyway.
