In Defence of La Defense (per Doc Henry)

I was unsure whether to to post these here or in 'Architecture', but seeing the discussion in Doc's thread this seems to be the right place.

I think the Arch is an extraordinary structure albeit depersonalising due to its vast scale, and the corporate surrounds are somewhat underwhelming. The area is open and exposed, but as per Doc's images well utilised during working hours (and dead out of hours as are many corporate/commercial areas) It is well away from the 'classic' Paris architecture which it would overwhelm, but nevertheless perfectly in alignment with Arche de Triomphe, Champs Elysees, Tuilleries, and the Louvre.

Arche de la Defense is so large that when my wife and I were first in Paris (in high summer) and saw it from the Arche de Triomphe it looked like a relatively short walk...it was 5km in 38° heat!

Ah la Defense !!!

with critics and lovers of the future style

It reminds me of the Louvre's pyramid !

Thank you Mark for all these beautiful images, taken in another way !

This may be allows us to see this monument from another angle

Best regards

Henry

Thanks Henry,

the Louvre pyramid (which I do like, and lets light into an excellent and efficient foyer area) is indeed good example of Parisian old and new.
