Hello Stuart,

we are again in the Coimbra University. Checked the story about the statue from “public sources”, it honors the King (John III in english?) that donated his Royal Palace to house the University.

Best regards,

Arto

Thanks Stuart,

I just hope that the gelato will not smear my junk mail filter...

The next one is, like Coimbra University, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site:

Hello Arto,

It is too bad that they are using metal nails to attach the shingles.

In the old days people used cedar plugs to attach shingles. The shingles, themselves, were often made of Cedar or Slate.

Cedar plugs are lighter & are often more durable than their metal alternatives.

And because they are fatter, they hold the slates/shingles better.

A larger surface area contacting the slate/shingle, the less stress on any contact point with the slate/shingle.

Best Regards,

Michael
