Those sedimentation ponds are located between Osburn and Silverton in the state of Idaho - this area also is known as the "Silver Valley" and the "Coeur d'Alene Valley".

Despite all appearances to the contrary, a large number of vacationers see this precise vista each and every year.

Looking for any of the following

a) the name of the wilderness area shown in the distance, or

B) the name of the highway that traverses this area, or

c) the name of the nearest town.

Michael:

Ok - you've got the state.

Can you narrow it down to a more precise location?

FYI -- the western 1/3 of Monana contains numerous mountain ranges and there are 15 official "wilderness areas" in a state with 147,042 square miles of area.

We seem to have bogged down. In the interest of keeping things moving, here's a hint:

The wilderness area shown in the photograph is made up of two distinct, and highly contrasting, geographies.

"The eastern side is dominated by high granitic plateaus. Hundreds of lakes lie among the bald rock and alpine tundra of the plateaus. This country is starkly beautiful but extremely fragile with unpredictable changes in weather. Wildlife that you may see includes moose, mule deer, mountain goats and bighorn sheep.

To the west the landscape is characterized by stratified volcanic and metamorphic rocks, heavily forested valleys and rugged peaks. This area is home to a variety of wild animals, most notably the threatened grizzly bear.
