Is this a trick question Michael or, do you want to teach us what you think we don't know? I would assume those to be fired clay or terracota tiles, just like in many European cities.

A great part of Palermo's old architecture has Arabic influence and I am sure North Africa used fired clay tiles as well.

Best,

Jan

Apologies for the delay. Where are we here? Please name the village (full picture and crop, unfortunately not in very good quality).

Though small it is quite well known among skiers.

I am impressed. This is very close but the "wrong" side of the mountain! If nobody comes up with the correct place today, I will let it count. There are always quite a few people from the US there.

Took me a while (and a better guess than my last one, Caracas)!

Let's stay with the mountains/skiing theme for a while.

While this place is closer to me than the Arlberg, it is still quite a ways away. It's one of my favorite places in the entire world, very remote. The population of the closest town is just 20, but in the gold rush days of 1892 they say there were almost 1,000 in the town.

Both pictures were shot facing in a westerly direction, and the clouds obscure a large series of lakes created in the 1960s when the river below was dammed.

Where are we?
