Michael Geschlecht Posted April 4, 2013 Share #2142 Â Posted April 4, 2013 Hello Everyone, Â Anybody know what those roofs were covered with? Â Best Regards, Â Michael
doubice Posted April 4, 2013 Share #2143 Â Posted April 4, 2013 Is this a trick question Michael or, do you want to teach us what you think we don't know? I would assume those to be fired clay or terracota tiles, just like in many European cities. Â A great part of Palermo's old architecture has Arabic influence and I am sure North Africa used fired clay tiles as well. Â Best, Â Jan
stuny Posted April 4, 2013 Share #2144 Â Posted April 4, 2013 In the Americas those roof tiles are called tejas.
Michael Geschlecht Posted April 4, 2013 Share #2145 Â Posted April 4, 2013 Hello Jan & Stuart, Â Thank you both. Â This is a real question. Â The roof tops look a little different than what I've seen before & I was not sure what the material was. Â Best Regards, Â Michael
a.j.z Posted April 4, 2013 Share #2146  Posted April 4, 2013 Apologies for the delay. Where are we here? Please name the village (full picture and crop, unfortunately not in very good quality).  Though small it is quite well known among skiers. Welcome, dear visitor! a.j.z Posted April 6, 2013 Share #2151 Â Posted April 6, 2013 I am impressed. This is very close but the "wrong" side of the mountain! If nobody comes up with the correct place today, I will let it count. There are always quite a few people from the US there.

woorob Posted April 6, 2013 Share #2154 Â Posted April 6, 2013 Should have know better, St. Anton is quite a bit larger than the hamlet in the picture! Â Stuben?
a.j.z Posted April 6, 2013 Share #2155 Â Posted April 6, 2013 I think you need oe more try but I admit that it is really difficult. The village we are looking at is between your two last guesses.
woorob Posted April 7, 2013 Share #2156 Â Posted April 7, 2013 Must be St. Christof? Been a while since I was there!
a.j.z Posted April 7, 2013 Share #2157 Â Posted April 7, 2013 Yes it is St. Christoph. I had assumed that a few of you have there. Good job and your turn!
woorob Posted April 7, 2013 Share #2158  Posted April 7, 2013 Took me a while (and a better guess than my last one, Caracas)!  Let's stay with the mountains/skiing theme for a while.  While this place is closer to me than the Arlberg, it is still quite a ways away. It's one of my favorite places in the entire world, very remote. The population of the closest town is just 20, but in the gold rush days of 1892 they say there were almost 1,000 in the town.  Both pictures were shot facing in a westerly direction, and the clouds obscure a large series of lakes created in the 1960s when the river below was dammed.  Where are we? dcoombs Posted April 7, 2013 Share #2159 Â Posted April 7, 2013 It sounds like Dawson City in the Yukon, but I don't know the ski area you're talking about. Â Doug
woorob Posted April 7, 2013 Share #2160 Â Posted April 7, 2013 Doug, Â You're quite a bit too far north and west. Although it's not a ski area per se, the picture was taken at about 8500 feet above sea level. Â Bob
