Advertisement Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Hi bruniroquai, Take a look here which You prefer? 50 cron v.5 or lux pre asph v.2?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
viboons Posted April 23, 2011 Share #2 Posted April 23, 2011 I have both and prefer each one for difference situations. Lux is good for me for M8 portrait and night street shooting but I do not like the coma of the spot light close to the edge at 1.4. Cron is good for me for when 1.4 is not require, lighter and more compact, but I like the bokeh of Lux more than the Cron. I'm between these two lenses, and I blowing my mind making the decission, anyone can light me ? Thanks !
bruniroquai Posted April 23, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted April 23, 2011 thank You!! but in terms of sharpness... are equals?
gyoung Posted April 23, 2011 Share #4 Posted April 23, 2011 thank You!! but in terms of sharpness... are equals? I have the first version Summicron and the last preasphreric Summilux, indistinguishable in practical terms from 2.8 onwards (not brick wall tests, just practical experience) The Summicron is very slightley better at f/2, the Summilux very much better at 1.4 Gerry
bruniroquai Posted April 23, 2011 Author Share #5 Posted April 23, 2011 I think that the sell of the lux pre asph v2 it's a good choice for night, low light and extremely bokeh, and for b/w too...
lct Posted April 23, 2011 Share #6 Posted April 23, 2011 thank You!! but in terms of sharpness... are equals? My last Summilux (with built-in hood) looks slightly sharper at f/2 than my v4 Summicron but both lenses are very close at f/2.8 and on. The Summilux has less flare as well but is significantly more heavy and bulky.
Xmas Posted April 23, 2011 Share #7 Posted April 23, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) My last Summilux (with built-in hood) looks slightly sharper at f/2 than my v4 Summicron but both lenses are very close at f/2.8 and on. The Summilux has less flare as well but is significantly more heavy and bulky. Hi In practical terms above is true i.e. although the lux is as good on axis it is not as good in corners, but the cron has more (veiling) flare, so you wont see a big difference, necessarily... If size and weight are a problem the versions of the (i.e. either) lenses without telescopic hood and in anodised aluminium are lighter and smaller, but have separate hoods. The summarit f/2.5 is probably the best option, or the post '94 Elmar, if performance is to be traded against weight/size, both are looked down upon by the fash accessory people, but not users. If you need an LTM option consider as well the CV f/2.5... If you dont use a tripod dont worry too much about MTF... Noel .
lct Posted April 23, 2011 Share #8 Posted April 23, 2011 Hi Noel, how big is the Summarit 50 with its dedicated hood on?
bruniroquai Posted April 23, 2011 Author Share #9 Posted April 23, 2011 Not trouble with the size! I like the 1.4 but I'm thinking before read all the post, that the lux it's less sharper than the cron...
01af Posted April 23, 2011 Share #10 Posted April 23, 2011 How big is the Summarit 50 with its dedicated hood on? The Summarit-M 50 mm 1:2.5, with the hood attached, is 51 mm long (excluding the bayonet parts that go inside the camera). That's exactly 2 inches. Without the hood, it's 34 mm which is less than the Elmar-M 50 mm 1:2.8 in extended working mode (but longer than the Elmar in collapsed mode). Hi Agreed only the CV is comparable with the Summarit in size, the CV has been 'compressed optically'. The arit is probably the best of any of these lenses at /5.6, but you need a tripod & slow film to see a detectable difference. The Elmar is slower out of the gbag if you carry it collapsed, and remember to extend it... Noel

bruniroquai Posted April 24, 2011 Author Share #13 Posted April 24, 2011 really the size it's not my problem.. only IQ and sharpness... but I think the look of the lux it's unique... probably less sharp than cron but at f4 or f5.6 both are equal not? lct Posted April 24, 2011 Share #14 Posted April 24, 2011 As i said (or not?) hard to tell a difference as far as sharpness at f/2.8 and on.
bruniroquai Posted April 24, 2011 Author Share #15 Posted April 24, 2011 Yeah but your summicron it's v4. mine v5 and your lux it's v3 , mine v2... there are no significant changes betwen my version and yours? Thank You Ict.
lct Posted April 24, 2011 Share #16 Posted April 24, 2011 Ah yes darned "versions". For some people there is no such thing as v5 Summicron and there are only two versions of the pre-asph Summilux. Which serial numbers are yours if i may ask?
bruniroquai Posted April 24, 2011 Author Share #17 Posted April 24, 2011 Lux: 2629221 of 1973, v2 e43. Cron: 3664240 v5
lct Posted April 24, 2011 Share #18 Posted April 24, 2011 Your Summicron is from 1994 which is the first year of the current version. Does it have a built-in hood?
tobey bilek Posted April 24, 2011 Share #19 Posted April 24, 2011 Lux has a lot of distortion, cron little if any. Sharpness is more balanced across the image area with lux, however it is less the the cron which is sharper, but in the center only. Lux has coma well controlled. Lux is softer until stopped to 8.0. If you need 1.4, that is the choice. Otherwise get a cron. The current Lux is the best 50 mm I ever used. If you can stand the weight and wait and cost, you will not be disappointed.
