About half an hour ago, my M8 shutter decided to destruct itself...:((( no Photos during this holidays... Tomorrow will phone my dealer about the repair process. It's a stupid post but I feel better if I tell about it in the forum, between friends :)

Thanks for the comments. M8 was bought brand new about 3 years ago and it performed flawlessly until today. Shutter actuations must be below 15 thousand, I have to check it. I was planning a short car trip to a lake near us. Before leave home, i mounted the wate Tri-elmar. After 30 minutes we arrived and I've just began to take a few snapshots. After three or four I've checked the LCD and found something disturbing: a pink color band in the lower part of the frame. This pink band was In all the Photos. After firing once again, I discovered a big big black and thick diagonal band. My First thought was a shutter blade. After removing the lens, I could confirm it :-(((((

Thanks Ho_co! The feeling right now is that I am missing this good tool that is the M8! Tomorrow I will try to phone my dealer and ask which are my options. I don't know how much would it be, and maybe it's time to think about an M9...all it depends about the final cost of the repair (out of warranty...) For the forensic guys here is the fatal secuence...

I've just checked with M8info tool and the exact count is 14.040 shutter actuations, which I feel a very low number to produce a massive shutter failure. ¿Bad luck? By the way I've been using the discrete shutter option...but I don't feel that Leica could allow a menu option that reduced drastically shutter life...

I cannot believe it, but right now, and for several days, the only camera that I could use is an Iphone ;-(((( (My M6 is some miles away, at home)

Tobey: it's a pain, and it will cost a lot, I know. But I know that I will buy Leica again. Things break...bad luck for me. Now I could experiment how good is Leica customer service, a privilege that others know better than me...;-)

K-H: it's not near Pamplona. It's in the Pirinees, between Spain and France, about 2.000 meters altitude. The lake is known as "Las Bullosas". Sadly, I was planning to wake up early in the morning tomorrow to be there as sun arises to capture good light. Maybe another chance in the future. Strangely, this is what upsets me more: the impossibility to photograph anything...

Bert N., thanks but it seems that It's not a thorn blade. It appears to be loose, going up and down as I move the camera... After checking my dealer's website it seems that until sunday it will not be possible to phone him due to Easter hollidays...

Wstotler: Thanks for the link. I've read with special interest your broken shutter story. It seems that we've joined the same club :-)

I really hope that being a low number of shutter actuations (14040 exactly) Leica support will take it in consideration...

How long was the repair in your case?

Your lens mount was really dirty!

Regards,

Joaquin
