The X1: Now an AMAZING street photography machine!

Recommended Posts

I think if you are on a photo forum you should be prepared to show your work

Is that not the reason we are all here ?

Not really, some people may just want technical information or advice. It's nice to see others work, but it's not a prerequisite for using the forum.

We are entitled to our opinions, although I do not see how "desperation" has anything to do with a discussion when we are expressing our opinions.

Bottom line is our experiences WIll all differ, you express yours, I express mine. I do not see how my cause is lost If there is indeed one), or how correct you are. No one is here to judge, coz no one really can. At the end of the day it is sharing of experiences. You can also ignore my posts or NOT read stuff posted in this forum if they irk you in any way. It's a free world!

Tell me something: You do not expect enthusiastic owners in An X1 thread??!! Ditto you see enthusiastic owners of M9s who defend the system and practically deem it flawless, ditto M8, sony, etc, etc, etc its a forum ....

I like people being passionate and enthusiastic about what they do or the tools they enjoy using. However, getting personal because somebody is of another opinion about a tool is something different.

Hi All, opinions, opinions, opinions, whichever way you look at it, politeness & civility should be the order of the day..Whether you need or give tech advice, general info or just showing your work - that should be okay...

And by the way, when I ZF with my M9 I beat the AF speed of my X1 anyday, even on a bad day. This does not make the X1 a bad camera and is not meant to bash it. But for ZF, it clearly looses to its big brother.

Ok let's reason this out.

1) M9 is faster than X1 for setting the zone- but if the person sets zone before hitting the street this is irrelevant.

2) M9 shutter has none of the supposed X1 MF shutter lag (which they apparently forgot to install on my X1 because mine is instantaneous). Even if many have this lag, it sounds to be in the millisecond(s).

But Ecaton you are omitting one aspect of zone focusing which is significantly more relevant than either of these issues, where the X1 beats the M9. I mentioned it in my original post. That's depth of zone. With a "smaller" sensor I can have as wide of a zone as 3.5ft to infinity. Again- before anyone shouts me out for touting an attribute that the cheapest cameras can best- the point is depth of field versatility. The X1 can have a profound DOF partially because of it's "smaller" sensor (compared to the M9) and a shallower depth of field than most cameras because of it's "larger" sensor compared to them- and the low light / bokeh / etc performance that comes with a larger sensor.

I'm not saying the X1 is a better camera than an M9, I'm just saying that this is a nice perk to the X1's Advanced Photo System size sensor -and when comparing the zone focusing on each it's worth mentioning!

The DoF is mostly affected by the lens you are using and not by the sensor sizes.

The M9 can have a collection of lenses of various focal lengths and therefore can get even higher DoF, if that's what you are after. Example: Leica Camera AG - Photography - LEICA ELMAR-M 24 mm f/3.8 ASPH., where you can have everything in focus from half a meter.

In contrast the X1 can only have one lens, one 35mm lens.

In any case, an M's advantage is it's ability to offer fast manual focus, because it is built in for that.

Relax guys, there's no use debating on this kinda stuff since while it may "affect" 1 person, it may not affect another... who cares about technicalities/functions? if it works for you, use it, else get something else that works for you...

f8 is way too slow for streets even if one can use 1600 iso ...the reality unless you have ideal conditions great light and little contrast you will find that f2.8 is needed for the shutter speed if one wants to freeze moderately close action....... f4 may do at a pinch

DPI is so low on web images if uploaded correctly they are not useable anyway

I didn't see anyone saying this, but while it should not be necessary for a participant in a forum to show anything at all, if they do decide to do so, it would be much less of a waste of people's time if what they showed was useful, and not fatally compromised by size or detail reduction.

Youre right you dont have to show your pics...

However if you come on a forum claiming to be gods gift to photography I think you should be showing work.

My personal view is that everyone on a photo forum should show work ....Remember thats my personal view not a rule.

Regarding image size

There are rules restricting image size so theres no choice there

People that post would know this

I don't think i have ever seen any poster in this forum profess to be "gods gift to photography"- maybe i have been looking at different posts than you.

I have looked at your images and you are right in being proud of displaying them. I only wish I could take images 1/2 as good as yours. Which is why I come to the forum- to learn from those who profess to be "gods gift"

Well I am certainly not gods gift

This is why I don't do well on forums I get to involved in what I believe

Maybe I should just resign from here.

if you have come here to learn then surely you need people to post images for you to see, which kind of takes us full circle

This thread has now gone completely off topic !

i certainly would miss your voice- i do not agree with everything you say- but that is how I learn= by listening to competing opinions and weighing them against my own.

i am deciding on a proper "for me" mode of displaying my totally inadequate images.

Hi, well I have worked in the UK, Europe & now the States.. The X1 is a great camera, though I think my M6 had a better feel. Each and everyone sees & takes pictures/images they think will be great..Some are some aren’t. No worries we all have bad days..

I used my new X1 during my recent european trip..I’m very happy with the results, I do not feel missed anything important in the street photography scene..I spent the 10 hours flight (SanFran-Amsterdam) getting to know the X1.

Even non photographers gasped at the colors & rendition of the jpegs.. I took around 370 images during the trip, I used EV bracketing at first but found it unnecessary after the first few shots, I obviously set EV if needed...My back up was the reliable & still great DL4.

Hi, well my D300 & R6.2 set ups with lenses etc. are now getting so heavy I decided the X1

was worthwhile alternative, I use the big” Leica external VF.. After a little practice on my garage wall I was able to resolve most vf issues..admittedly no info in the vf, but once I set up the X1 it was just a small step to reset settings..even my M6/R6.2 where not perfect..

My motto’ “”adapt”"

Hi Ricco,

I read about the X1 Turbo (chinese website) - it’s not official but it offers a built in VF, no Flash, Zoom Lens...All Black, All White or Camo.. Cost around $2550 US Dollars..

I’m first on the Pre Order list..........

Hi Peteraitch”’ I’m not sure I agree with you on the A/Focus.. the boat on the river was a grab shot, with the boat moving at a pace, I just looked thro' the EVF and pointed just ahead of the smiling lady...it worked..:)
