Leicas and female photographers....yes?

It has occurred to me that most of the photographers that I have met, seen and read about that use or used a Leica of some description are males. I wonder what is the percentage of female users of Leicas, especially today’s digital models.

Yes, I take on board all of the great female photographers mentioned here so far.......so this covers "seen and read about". So, how many have we met, talked to, or sold a roll of film, lens, tripod or a camera battery to. How many times have you seen a Leica on a coffee table in a cafe next to you or a tourist taking a picture of a famous landmark in your area and it belonged to a lady.......In my own experience, well I mentioned this before.....

All female photographers or ladies that carried a camera that I have met, talked to or seen walking past all carried a Japanese camera of one type or another.......what is with that.

My first encounter with a live Leica photographer was in the Japanese mountains, about 1987, where a Japanse woman walking towards us had no less than two Leicas hanging from her neck.

So based on this statistic (factoid) women must be the majority Leica users in Japan:D

The the contrary, I think he's actually lucky. My impression is that most ladies walking by who don't carry a Japanese camera make self-portraits with their cell phone instead

Wooooo!!!!!!:mad::eek: Now THAT is fighting talk! You sir, are certainly associating with the wrong people.

About HM Elizabeth II : with due respect, I see hers as a typical case of "noblesse oblige" :o

The Queen has been using Leica rangefinders since the 1950s, which is probably longer more than most forum members.

Which may, of course, just mean a consistent application of "noblesse oblige".

Have you seen anyone since?.......I have decided to keep a record of the number of women with a Leica that I will see in person while travelling in London and Prague this coming European summer.....maybe I will surprise myself.

Hello all.

I have just joined the forum and I have just bought myself a D Lux 5 as a carry at all time camera. Hoping to learn lots on here along with having fun.

I also own a Nikon DSLR but a bit large to carry all the time although I do love it.

My last compact let me down in a couple of "no flash" situations and my iphone was better then so decided to treat myself to a Leica.

Stephens the dealer in Manchester were a joy to deal with.

Speaking as a woman here, I have the V-LUX 20 also which I love and particularly the zoom for birds etc. Also have the D-LUX 5 for RAW and macros. The D-LUX 5 is far superior to the v20 for macro shots which I love to take.

I do appreciate many of the technical fine points but am not obsessed with them. My background is painting, and I'm sure that has colored much of my approach to photography.

Now if I could afford it I'd have the M9 but that's out of my price range. If I win the lottery ..............

:p "keeping a record"... this makes me remember when (24 years ago) in a European summer, I tried to approach a fine girl with a M2, keeping well in evidence my own M2 and hoping this could fuel "something"... no success... :o

I remember the good old days, quite a while back now. This will be a purely statistical research on my part. (with my wife's help) .......my son is using the same technique, but with something bigger.......a Nissan 300ZX Fairlady.....

I was thinking about this issue........I have a theory; perhaps women carry their Leicas in their handbags out of sight, (they always carry handbags) while men like to show of their mechanical/electronic gadgets by carrying them slung over their necks or shoulders in plain sight.
