Leicas and female photographers....yes?

I remember the good old days, quite a while back now. This will be a purely statistical research on my part. (with my wife's help) .......my son is using the same technique, but with something bigger.......a Nissan 300ZX Fairlady.....

I was thinking about this issue........I have a theory; perhaps women carry their Leicas in their handbags out of sight, (they always carry handbags) while men like to show of their mechanical/electronic gadgets by carrying them slung over their necks or shoulders in plain sight.

Well the last two I've seen -

one had a camera knapsack for a M7, and was carring the M to hand, note no handbag...

the other had a normal girl shoulder bag and dropped the M back into it when she was not taking a shot so you could not tell, she was a photog. Perhaps they have concealed weapon permits?

true on my account, I use a special bag for my camera makeup, everything; designed for rangefinders that is about the size of a medium/large bag. Its far too small and cute to be mistaken for those big ass camera bags one typically sees like Billingham. Its also over the shoulder under my arm so its not going to be snatched off, not before anyone wouldbe would find themselves kissing pavement.

I started using Leica cameras shortly after meeting my partner who shoots with M8 and M6. He introduced me to the world of rangefinders and now I can't bear the thought of selling the M8 at any time in the near future as it is an absolute pleasure to shoot with, and my photography has come on leaps and bounds since I started working with it. For the times when I don't have access to the M8, I have bought a Digilux 2 (which certainly does not fit comfortably into my handbag!!), and it is also a joy to work with, and a great way to achieve "rangefinder-style" manual control on a digital all-rounder.

I'm proud to have achieved LFI Master Shots with both the M8 and Digilux, and am enjoying breaking the mold and experimenting with shooting both male sensual and climbing photography, which I have seen very little (virtually none??) of so far on LFI.

So can females enjoy shooting Leicas AND appreciate the design quirks and the operational style of Leicas?

I think so.

Female, and shooting M7 and M9.

Love working with rangefinders, Leica has totally transformed my photography and my life.

Haven't shot with my Nikon DSLR since changing to Leica, it would be fair to say it is now redundant. I really don't know why I'm hanging on to that kit to be honest.

The Leica simply feels like an extension of my eye's view... a totally organic way of working and always a pleasure. I absolutely love it, and it's never far from me wherever I am, always within hands reach.

I don't come on the forum as often as I could, due to being very busy working - i.e. taking photographs. :)

And... you know what, lovely though it is to see everyone's photographs on line, it is just amazing to print work off and see it on a gallery wall.... what a joy....

I'm in love with Polly Samson...

Well if you ever go round to her place while her husband is out, will you bring back a guitar for me?? You will easily recognise one in particular I would like... It says Fender in large friendly letters on the front and the serial is 00001 !

Thanks !

Im in the US and I guess I am not in the right areas for Leica spotting. I observe cameras all the time as I wander about. Canons and Nikons are the leaders by far, but I can count on two hands the number of Leicas I've seen in the field in the last 10 years, and never in the hands of a woman.

My wife will shoot my D-Lux4 at times when she doesn't want to fiddle with her Nikon, but that's it.

I personally think a lady with a leica is sexy.

Tell me about it. I spotted this vision at a cafe I frequent (more so after I met her, in hopes of "casually bumping" into her again)

:D(spotting a black sheep from a train's window, in Scotland)

"Interesting... I didn't know sheeps are black, in Scotland..." :D

Luigi, you omittted the continuation: "Yes, on this side." This came from a Cambridge professor of logic.

As far as I know HM Queen Elizabeth is a Leica user.

So is my girlfriend (D-Lux 5), no liaison with ER II :p

BTW ERII is mentioned at least twice on the first page of this thread.

Did anyone mentioned Leni Rifensthal, she did some serious photo work in her later years, and even more serious work in her earlier years.

YES!

M2 w/ 50mm f/2 Summicron. Of course, when I first logged on here 4 years ago I had not realized that the lens was a collapsible one and had a terrible embarassment about my ignorance and haven't logged in since. Now that I've just purchased a second body, I'm BACK! :D
