It's a moot point now, but the AF in normal light was never fast enough
For most ppl the X! AF is fast, actually i dont care if another camera is a sec quicker or slower, i mean who cares? For me it makes no difference if i have to wait one sec or two, this camera isnt made for taking images of running rabbits, i only use it during vacation to make images of houses, Landscapes, ppl and so on..Thats why this camera is perfect for me cause of the size and IQ, i like it that it dont have OVF cause it would make it bigger and that means not good for traveling. Thats why i sold my DSLR in the end. Thats why i will never understand why ppl complaining about AF.

The points i would love to be in the X2 are better display, great macro mode and mechanical Lens instead of the "by wire" solution

Upgraded my X1 this morning. Have taken about a dozen test shots and do think the AF seems faster, though it might be my imagination. I do love the MF improvements. Love that the ISO is displayed, too.

I'm no pro, so my input might not be worth much to the rest of the folks in this forum, but I thought I'd throw it in anyway.

Now to go out and take some pictures. :D

For you... yes. For me, no. Not everyone photographs the same way or the same things. The X1's AF is not very usable on the streets. The MF certainly is now...

finally it's here!

i just got done updating the firmware to 2.0. the new manual focus definitely looks like an improvement and the af seems a bit faster. i still have to try it out under low lighting to see if i can really tell the difference.

you guys thoughts?

Well, this is interesting. I just installed the update and now my manual focus doesn't work at all. The focus thumbwheel is completely ineffective. It doesn't change the focus distance at all. Previously, the MF worked just fine. Anyone else have this problem? By the way, I have gone through the update process twice so repeating didn't help.

Mine did the same, I posted it earlier. I just changed to AF, focused a couple times and it was fine in MF afterwards.

Same here: the overall responsiveness of the camera has been improved for sure. i would say a good 25% faster for the AF in low light, and even in normal light conditions. i gave it a try at starting using the camera like i would have done it before firmware install, and it did make a difference. very noticeable, to me at least.

it's not putting the camera into the fast lane, but who cares. it's awesome anyway. :)

well done, Leica!

LEICA X1 Firmware Update Version 2.0 - Page 3

Metering Memory Lock (see instr., p. 106)

A manually set focus position can now be locked by pressing the DELETE/

FOCUS button (1.15) for more than one second.

This can prove to be very useful to prevent unintentional miss-setting,

especially in the case of several consecutive shots of the same subject
