Hi,

I notice that there is no "V-LUXs Forum", although there are now two versions of this camera. Is it because they are considered "not worth it" or because nobody has asked for it yet?

No "V-LUXs Challenges" either...

Anne

Hi Anne,

Second point first. There is no V-Lux Challenge because nobody has taken the initiative to set one up ;) I initiated the One Challenge, the Barnack Challenge and the D-Lux 4 Challenge and all are still going. It just needs someone to take the first step - I am happy to help and advise, so if you want to be that person, drop me a PM and I will take you through the basics - I did the same for the X1 Challenge recently.

On your other question, not every camera - or range - has its own sub-forum. The much-loved Digilux 2 is a prime example. You can, however, create a "social group" - click on "Community" at the top of the page.

BTW, I have an FZ-50 (the Panasonic version of the V-Lux 1) so I would be happy to take part.

Regards,

Bill

Id be happy to participate as well ... with my V-Lux 1 ... if that helps at all.

If one feels strongly enough about ones camera then by all means start a challange , just

as the Gentleman has stated.

Thank you for the quick answer Bill; I appreciate. ;)

Actually I had no idea that it was the members who created challenges and sub-forums. I thought this kind of things was "Admin' privilege". ;)

I'll take a look and see what I can do.

Thanks to you too, Brian. :)

P.S. : apparently it takes to be a paying member to create social groups and challenges, which I am not... yet. ;)

Arr. Thought you could create a social group. I did before I was a full member?

You are right in that Andreas needs to set up the sub fora for challenges, but a PM to "Admin" soon sorts that.

There are basic rules wot I wrote in the first place that people have amended over the years, but they are pretty straightforward. There are also spreadsheets to make scoring easier.

Just think of a theme and off you go... Have a look at the Challenges that have been before for inspiration

Bill

Thank you Bill and, yes, I could think of a challenge for V-Luxs and alike (meaning the Panasonic versions of our Leica only, of course ;)). I'll take a closer look at the other challenges organisation and contact Andreas. Will it do?

By the way, talking of the Panasonics, tell me that there are real differences between these and my Leica, that cost me about 150€ more than its Panasonic "cousin"...

Yes, a Leica red dot, different software and a better warranty, otherwise they are identical.

Some people are convinced that jpegs from Leicas are different but I've yet to see anyone post a photographic comparison to demonstrate it! Both cameras are made by Panasonic in their factory, same with all other PanaLeicas.

Ah, I have my handy little FZ50 you see... ;) I shall happily compete with that - if allowed, of course :D

Bill

Haaa, I completely forgot! You already told me. Sorry.

Of course, you're welcome. :)

Is there any place where we could see some photos you did with that precise camera?

Hello, I have the V Lux 2 and it takes great pictures for my needs! I shoot pictures of my dogs mostly outside and use a CF 22 Flash. I am just learning the camera, but so far the pictures produced are as good as my Nikon D70 and 180 mm nikon lens (at least with the naked eye). It's fast, color reproduction is right on, and the versatility of this camera can not be stated enough. I would also join the V lux discussions.

Regards,

Gary

Here are some shots I made today, straight out of the camera, jpegs, no post processing, neither resizing. The first one was taken from a long distance, using the 600 mm zoom (focal length 108 mm).

Sorry I think you misunderstood me. I've yet to see anyone post direct comparison images taken with a Panasonic and Leica version of the same camera.

There are thousands of pages of text on the web about the 'differences' but never any photographic evidence!

On the other hand, someone with three Leica Digilux 2's tried the same exercise and posted the results, which were all slightly different in colour rendition and exposure (even though it was the same subject shot at the same time and jpegs straight from camera).

Here's a couple of my favourites, taken last year: ...who says small sensor cameras can't cut it? ;) Regards, Bill

Anyway, it's the photographer that makes the photo. ;)

Thank you Bill for sharing the pictures.

  • 2 weeks later...
I have the V-Lux 1 and it's a fantastic camera. I spent about a year doing some street photography with it. Here's a sample, no PP done, right out of camera. It would be great to have a V-Lux group here!

Great photo! :)

We would feel less alone if we had our own group, that's sure, some people thinking that our V-Luxes, and some others, are not real Leica cameras...

P.S. : I have no idea where I could post this, so, could someone create this group, please? Thank you! :)
