nschmidt-dd Posted March 10, 2011 Share #1 Posted March 10, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Folks, I am more than keen to subscribe to Reid Review. It is recommended once a day in this forum and the freely available articles indeed confirm the potential value also for me. However, I am seriously struggling with the "white text on black background" appearance of both, the content site and the free articles. Could anyone confirm whether this layout has been choosen for all articles accessable after subscription? Or does anybody know a usable workaround? Cheers Norbert
Advertisement Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Hi nschmidt-dd, Take a look here reidreviews hard to read. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
01af Posted March 10, 2011 Share #2 Posted March 10, 2011 You can always set the colours for text and background to whatever you like in your web browser. Personally, I prefer black on light grey.
nschmidt-dd Posted March 10, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted March 10, 2011 Simple and very effective idea. Was not at all thinking about it ... thanx 01af There is even an add-on available for Firefox to toggle between two colour settings. It is called, right, "Color Toggle"
giordano Posted March 11, 2011 Share #4 Posted March 11, 2011 You can always set the colours for text and background to whatever you like in your web browser. Personally, I prefer black on light grey. I thought that only worked with simple HTML, not with Flash like Sean's.
bernie.lcf Posted March 11, 2011 Share #5 Posted March 11, 2011 I thought that only worked with simple HTML, not with Flash like Sean's. yep, I think so as well Sean's reviews are excellent, but the Flash technology behind it is a real pain. This shows you how good his articles are... that people are putting up with Flash in order to be able to read them. What drives me really crazy (and this is perhaps something Sean could change in his Flash code) is that if you finish one article and you click on the next one, you'd be at the end of the next article rather than at the beginning. elgenper Posted March 11, 2011 Share #6 Posted March 11, 2011 Poor Sean has been thoroughly flogged for years on various fora for this. He defends himself by stating that Flash gives a decent protection against copying text (it doesn´t really, but let´s leave that out...). The quality of the contents make most of us (I´ve just renewed...) choose to live with it. But white text on black is indeed an anachronistic disgrace, on more sites than Sean´s (Luminous Landscape comes to my mind...). There ought to be some kind of setup where one can choose black-on-white instead; can´t be all that difficult.

You can add the RFF (rangefinder forum) to the list of hard to read websites, but also a lot of photographers lack common sense to make their websites readable. ___________ FrankR
lct Posted March 11, 2011 Share #8 Posted March 11, 2011 You can add the RFF (rangefinder forum) to the list of hard to read websites... Why so? Quite simple to me.
freusen Posted March 11, 2011 Share #9 Posted March 11, 2011 Why so? Quite simple to me. Lct, I know that you can change colors and fonts, but I prefer to keep the websites as they are. ____________ FrankR
lct Posted March 11, 2011 Share #10 Posted March 11, 2011 Frank, as it is RFF lets you choose between 5 different styles actually. You might wish to look at the Quick Style Chooser in the downer left corner.
