Fezz Posted March 5, 2011 Share #1 Posted March 5, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Everyone, I am a new owner of an M9 with a 35mm. I have been shooting for years with Canon 1Ds but for traveling I could not longer take the weight of carrying all that carp around half the continent.. I love the M9! One Camera One Lens and off we go! However, I find the strap very short as I am a broad guy, just wanted to know if anyone knew any manufacture who made nice artisan leather straps to go with such an artisan camera. I would feel I would be insulting my Leica just adding a nylon strap Preferably brown leather. I love the one on the Titanium but not going to spend 30.000 for a strap Once I get more practice in, i´m sure I will be posting asking you all for more technical advise. Thanks so much! dcv Posted March 5, 2011 Share #3 Posted March 5, 2011 I have the Luigi strap + case for my M9 and love and use them both. I spent a couple of weeks in India, and had no issues with the strap/case. I didn't think I'd love the case, but it turned out to be great to be able to quickly snap the back cover and protect the LCD while traveling/walking. Humood Posted March 5, 2011 Share #4 Posted March 5, 2011 I am using Luigi's half case and strap with my Leica cameras, it is soft and very comfortable, be patient with Luigi because all his leather goodies are hand-made. I got a case in "aged" brown leather, the more I use it the better it gets, and, oh that smell of leather is wonderful! Mikep996 Posted March 6, 2011 Share #6 Posted March 6, 2011 I travel quite a lot and over MANY years went through all sorts of straps, including Luigi straps/cases, etc with my Leicas (M2, M6, M7) and ended up with the standard Leica strap that is supplied with current cameras or can be purchased for around 40 bucks. It frankly seems to work much better than any of the designer straps. I even have one on my knock-around Nikon D80.

myshkine Posted March 6, 2011 Share #8 Posted March 6, 2011 The standard strap. Perfect balance, good grip, discreet.
MarkP Posted March 6, 2011 Share #9 Posted March 6, 2011 I must agree with Mike, Paul, and myshkine regarding the Leica strap for travel. I recently travelled to Europe with an Artist & Artisan ACAM-250 leather strap (to go with a matching A&A black leather half-case). It was nicely softened and pliable within a short period of time, is very comfortable wrapped around the wrist, sits snugly over the shoulder with little or no slip, and has just the right amount of spring in it. However, in wet weather the damp leather was quite unpleasant and I went back to the original synthetic Leica strap which I had also brought along with me. It is soft and comfortable (including wrapped around the wrist) and grips the shoulder well. I don't think it's a cheap afterthought but a very sensible design, albeit not as luxurious as the leather . Now I'm back home I've reverted to the A&A strap. They both serve their purpose but for travel I would take the Leica strap every time. Mark

Guest thremur Posted March 6, 2011 Share #12 Posted March 6, 2011 ...hey, leppaludi, could you please expand on this? How did you get rid of the moulded shoulder pad? hi, aesop, I just tried :-). I took off small pieces from the middle of the pad with a sharp knife (cutter) until I reached the strap itself. From there it was easy to get rid of it. The pad it is only glued at the ends to the strap.
gabriel Posted March 6, 2011 Share #13 Posted March 6, 2011 I find that the Artist & Artisan braided silk strap on my M9 the most comfortable I have ever had on any camera. It also colls around the hand as an alternative to round the neck or over the shoulder according to yuur needs.

I have one on my M9 and another on my D700 and they are supremely comfortable on either camera, even with a heavy lens fitted. The only downside is that, being made from woven silk, these straps are expensive. However, if they were good enough for the Samurai...
alexfezz Posted March 6, 2011 Share #16 Posted March 6, 2011 WOW! Thank you very much for all the input. I will play around with the Standard Strap a bit longer in that case, but I do feel its too short for me and hard to wrap round the wrist. If I can't get used to it I will look into all the great suggestions mentioned above. I have to say that one design fault for me with this camera is the thing that attaches to the Strap on the camera, it really gets in the way of your grip. I hold the camera so its in between my index finder and center finger and it does not feel very natural.. all else perfect through. I ordered a Thumbs Up after I read everyone was so satisfied with it so that should help... Having a camera this expensive its ver important we can all grip is as hard as possible in the case of attempted theft of accident.. markgay Posted March 6, 2011 Share #18 Posted March 6, 2011 Have you considered a strap that connects to the tripod socket. The camera hangs upside down: the way you need it to get it to your eye with least hassle - and the straps are out of your face. This is my next strap: SNIPER-STRAP "THE PRO" - Steel & Bear - Mark

wda Posted March 6, 2011 Share #20 Posted March 6, 2011 For sheer comfort, try the Leica neoprene neck-strap. Not sure if it still in the catalog; if not, a third-party equivalent.
