mgcd Posted July 13, 2006 Share #2 Posted July 13, 2006 Herbert - This image was severely damaged by high compression. You may want to re-post.
leicamann Posted July 13, 2006 Share #3 Posted July 13, 2006 Herbert..seems like a summer thing..I am also experiencing serious compression issues, 4 hrs of scanning all had to be scrapped......I am getting frustrated again and will probably look for a new scanner..the Imacon Flexlite ..even though expensive ..seems to "bypass all the scanning crap"...Also whats really irritating in these Forums is that if your scan is not absolutely perfect..the image is also evaluated as equivalent to the scan... this is completly erroneous and wrong..I know for a fact that you will give us a good image once you figure out what happened..but..in Forum terms..you posted it..you had your chance..its crap.. time to pan it.... and even if the corrected version is superb....call it unusual if people revist it and bother to comment..this is not at all democartic or fair..again ..yet another reason not to post on this forum. Cheers, JRM

starwatcher Posted July 13, 2006 Share #10 Posted July 13, 2006 Good Moooooooooooorning, America, it is 8.30 in Germany, a sunny morning and we're expecting temperatures in the 80-90s. best - Klaus
stuny Posted July 13, 2006 Share #11 Posted July 13, 2006 John - I defer to your experience and expertise in scanning, but my assumption when I saw this was it is an attempt to lessen the effect of blemishes and minor aging on the subject's face. Was I wrong?
andybarton Posted July 13, 2006 Share #12 Posted July 13, 2006 It's a large image and only 71k in size. There could be 3x the quality in the image and it would still make it under the wire as far as the forum file size is concerned. If it were reposted, at a higher jpg quality, John Mead's rant re "panning" would probably not come to pass. I think that there's an interesting portrait here, just waiting to come out. jmr Posted July 13, 2006 Share #13 Posted July 13, 2006 Herbert, I agree with Andy, please give us another chance to see a better scan of Mary, who knows, we might even like it. Sometimes you get compliments, sometimes you get criticism, sometimes you get ignored. You can probably learn from all three experiences, if you try hard enough
leicamann Posted July 13, 2006 Share #14 Posted July 13, 2006 Andy you must admit..that in the old forum this was customary or S>O>P... screw up your first post..you might as well forget it..I experienced this many times..others ...anyhow...blah blah blah...yes this image is probably 50 pixels x 90 pixels stretched like cellophane to 500x800..... common Herbert.... andybarton Posted July 13, 2006 Share #15 Posted July 13, 2006 I would repost it in a new thread - with a new title, so that folk know that it has been properly reposted and not just tagged onto the end of this post.
