Everyone should have an M2. The fashion is to have one the same age as you

I was about to say I'm not old enough but, having just looked up the M2 production dates, I see I just make the cut:):(. Apart from price, is there an advantage with the M2 over a nice M4?

Everyone should have an M2. The fashion is to have one the same age as you, but mine is exactly 9 months older than me. So, it was being made at the same time I was. Which is nice :)

Indeed! My week-old (to me, that is) M2 (1964) is sitting on the desk, loaded and ready for action. A thing of aesthetic beauty will huge tactile appeal. I bought Jonathan Eastland's great book 'The Leica M Compendium' back in 1995 when the desire to own a Leica first infected me but I managed to fight it off until succumbing to the M9 last November. Inevitably a film 'M' just had to follow... :)

A (hopefully) nice M2 is on its way to me right now. Looked great in the pictures, anyway. :o

It has quite a few years on me - but with Leica build (from that time) I wonder which one of us will last longest?

Andy,

How are you able to fine out your M2's star sign? Does the Leica Handbook have the month and numbers as well as the year? I can't remember?

M2 is to MP what M4 is to M7 for the older classic Leica times I guess with the M4 having the newer features, fast load, helpful angled wind-on.

Is there an "I Love My M4" thread? I'll check.

Regards, Lincoln

I dumped digital despite having a Nikon D700 and pro lenses. Trouble was it was so big I never used it. Also, it was so good it was boring. My first film Leica was the M6 Classic. I found the viewfinder did flare often but I largely solved the problem with the sticky-tape trick.

Tobey must surely be right that film sales are and will continue to dwindle. We must live for the moment and enjoy film whilst we can. My hope is that sales will plateau at a level that is still of interest to manufacturers. If it ever becomes financially untenable for me to continue with film I'll at the very least have my lovely mechanical Leicas sitting on the mantlepiece as ornaments full of memories. By then I would have bought an M10 which hopefully has the Nikon D2x sensor and processing :D

Don't forget that returning to film can introduce other problems (like home scanning). You've got to enjoy the journey but it's worth travelling.

What is the sticky tape trick?

+1 regarding dumping digital. My 5DMk2 will remain in service for paid work but I'm back to using an M6TTL for fun. And what fun it is :D

+1 for the 5d2. I have a pair for paid work. Since starting with the M6 classic I am starting to integrate it into some of my paid jobs. It has replaced digital for my personal work entirely, and one may be destined for ebay. I even souped my first roll this week. It took a day of practicing in the changing bag and making notes from youtube. Feeling pretty hardcore!
