Robinyuill Posted February 4, 2011 Share #1 Posted February 4, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sorry, I know there's another thread on this but I am getting Pop Ups for "value brand" product continually on my Macbook when I am on the forum. Every time I click on a subject I get another pop up appearing! I end up with screen full of the damn things. How do I stop this. I love the forum but hate all these pop ups. Regards Robin. Advertisement Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 Hi Robinyuill, Take a look here Pop Up Ads. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
janki Posted February 4, 2011 Share #2 Posted February 4, 2011 I am also troubled of this phenomenon. Could this be a kind of hacking? I certainly do not think it is wise to click on "Hier klicken ".
thetoaster Posted February 4, 2011 Share #3 Posted February 4, 2011 Use Firefox and the Adblock Plus plugin. Haven't seen a pop-up ad in ages.
h00ligan Posted February 5, 2011 Share #4 Posted February 5, 2011 These popups also require the adblock popup helper, in addition to adblock plus - at least in firefox 4 beta.
too old to care Posted February 6, 2011 Share #5 Posted February 6, 2011 These ads were not there a few days ago? Anything in Norton that can stop them?
thetoaster Posted February 6, 2011 Share #6 Posted February 6, 2011 Ah yes... You mean the one in the Content tab in Options, right? I've had that checked for so long I've forgotten about it. These popups also require the adblock popup helper, in addition to adblock plus - at least in firefox 4 beta.
richfx Posted February 6, 2011 Share #7 Posted February 6, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) The website has been hacked. Someone needs to resolve this issue - it is really a bummer. Rich
andybarton Posted February 6, 2011 Share #8 Posted February 6, 2011 The website has not been hacked. Has anyone here sent a PM to "admin" about this, apart from me?
pop Posted February 6, 2011 Share #9 Posted February 6, 2011 The website has not been hacked. Has anyone here sent a PM to "admin" about this, apart from me? I have, several days ago, as I did not realize that they were in fact intended by admin.
andybarton Posted February 6, 2011 Share #10 Posted February 6, 2011 It is/was a short trial, from what I have been told. There is a very long thread on the German side about it.
richfx Posted February 6, 2011 Share #11 Posted February 6, 2011 If the website has not been hacked, the administrator has agreed to allow this nonsense by a vendor or other party. Either way, it's terrible. It ruins the entire user experience. Why is it necessary to send an e-mail to the administrator? Wouldn't he see these e-mails in the normal course? Who is Value Brands Ads anyway? Can't imagine they're a legitimate business. Rich
andybarton Posted February 6, 2011 Share #12 Posted February 6, 2011 The administrator and the moderators do not read every post. How could we? If you see something untoward on the forum, a quick PM, or a click on the report button is all that is required. I have already explained this is / was a trial. I cannot comment on the pop ups content personally, as I have never seen one.
UliWer Posted February 6, 2011 Share #13 Posted February 6, 2011 ... I have already explained this this was a trial. I cannot comment on the pop ups content personally, as I have never seen one them. As it is a trial, it's worthwhile to look at it just once, to find out the error.
andybarton Posted February 6, 2011 Share #14 Posted February 6, 2011 I can't see them. Either because I am a Sponsor, or because I use Safari on a Mac, or both.
andybarton Posted February 6, 2011 Share #15 Posted February 6, 2011 I have just opened up a session in Firefox, with all pop ups enabled, and had a video from B&H play, before I logged in. Is that what the issue is? I never log out of the forum, so have never seen this before. This does not show when using Safari.
andybarton Posted February 6, 2011 Share #16 Posted February 6, 2011 When I log out of Safari, I see the Google ads again. The B&H video was in a section for one of those. I don't get any pop-ups. I don't get any when using Chrome, either I'm sorry I can't help you further. I have reported this thread to Andreas for his comments.
andybarton Posted February 6, 2011 Share #17 Posted February 6, 2011 I did see the pop-up when using a very old version of Opera, but only when I clicked on the "show pop-ups" box in the bottom right hand corner.
richfx Posted February 6, 2011 Share #18 Posted February 6, 2011 I'm using Safari (v. 5.0.3) on an iMac (OSX v. 10.6.6) and keep getting flashing Value Brand pop-up ads - incessantly - saying "Sie sind Unser 999,999 Besucher" with a bunch of other gibberish and asking to click the link in it. Hope this helps identify where these attacks are coming from. Rich
janki Posted February 6, 2011 Share #19 Posted February 6, 2011 First of all, - my knowledge of computers and software is very limited. So I do not have much to contribute when it comes to clarifying what is the cause of this problem. But I'm using the latest Mac Pro, 10.6.6, and the misery started sometime during the weekend. I've turned on the so-called "pop up" protection, and I use the "firewall". These "pop ups" locates themselves behind the Forum window, and will appear when you want to sign out. If you e.g. have clicked with the mouse such as 25 times on the Forum page, you will have 25 "pop up" windows lying behind the Forum page when you log out. Each of these "pop up " windows must then be removed one by one to "clean" the screen. This is nothing else than pure pollution, and must cease.
