Does anybody know a dealer who has the new Summilux-M 35 mm f/1.4 ASPH available?

thanks!

Hi

Welcome to this friendly forum.

Currently there is a shortage of many Leica lenses. Leica have not made enough to satisfy increased demand consequent on increased M9 sales.

Try phone Red Dot in am but he probably will be out of stock.

2nd hand preaspheric lux or 2nd hand cosina voightlander f/1.5 until your order is satisfied, or summarit f/2.5 for better performance unless you shoot in dark all the time...

Was at my dealers this weekend and was told that because he could not get stock on either the 35 Lux Asph or 50 Lux Asph, he lost two M9 sales. If you are new to Leica, this lens shortage is a real headache. If you have existing glass already, no big deal. But I wonder just how many M9 sales to customers new to the Leica fold are being lost as a result of this lens shortage. I know my dealer updates Leica when incidences like this occur. Hopefully the other dealers are doing the same. For myself, I would like to demo the new 35 Lux Asph, but I just can't get my hands on one. So there's another lost sale....

Frustratingly, sales can indeed be lost due to a specific lens not being available. The counterside of this is that prospective purchasers are unwilling to consider e.g. Summicron or something pre-owned instead of "I have simply got to have the latest Summilux, nothing else will do". One wonders if they really need a new 'lux every time this happens or is it just perceived status/GAS?

thank you Noel! I will give them a call tomorrow.I am checking since 5-6 weeks all kids of websites and in different countries. I am new to Leica and yes, it's quite frustrating to be able to buy a M9 body (which is on the market for more than a year), but most of the current lenses aren't available nowhere :(

My advice would be to buy a second hand lens and order the lens you really want from your dealer. You won't lose much when you come to do the trade when the lens arrives. Set up a trade in deal before you buy.

As others suggested, buy a used Cron or something similar for now, and put your name on a list with a reputable dealer. I have been on a list since the beginning of last June with Rahn, and they just contacted me that they should have mine in February. LAst month they had 64 orders, and have made through about a quarter of their list, evidently receiving 2 or 3 a month.

Of course, there are a few on the forum who IMO lucked into finding one fast, but I believe it to be the exception....but you never know. Look up the listing of Leica Dealers and let your fingers do the walking.

On the other hand, you may even find you like the Cron more, and the Lux is not necessary.

"...lucked..."?? - I think you mean "...didn't sit on their arses and wait passively for a lens to drop into their laps whilst moaning all the while about poor supply..."

I mentioned to my local dealer that I wanted this lens before it was announced. After, mentioning it to him often, he said that enough others had asked so, he had started a list. Then, I continued inquiring about it when I was in the store. One day, in September, I got a call from him that he received one lens, and had to give my card to him over the phone because, his list was now quite long. That was the only one they have received. That is the story of how I "lucked into" one. No ass-sitting, lap-dropping, or forum-moaning involved whatsoever. Maybe, just a wee bit of pain in the ass dealer-bothering. :D

Actually, I called almost 30 dealers last June. My local dealer has yet to see one. At that point, after deciding there were more important things in life, I decided to do business and get in line with a dealer I have dealt with several times before with good success. At at no point have I complained- I sold my prior 35 Lux, on which to focus shift bothered me, and patiently waited, for I have a MATE to keep me occupied. I actually figured I might be waiting a year. The dealer has given me monthly updates, which I consider good communication and has convinced me they are doing the best they can.

As for others waiting for the 35 Lux II, you may be right, but I don't feel I am in such a knowledgable position to know enough about specific situations to draw a general conclusion about the actions of those waiting. Many may be addressing the current backlog as I have.
