when are the powers that be going to move this thread where the other "i love my Mx film camera" threads reside? M4 is, to me, the best film Leica made -- more modern in film loading and rewinds than M3 and M2, and the last one built old-school, with brass and precision. The shutter click is pure poetry.

Hej Alexander, that's a beautiful M4!

Is that the strap that came with the camera?

When I had mine serviced not long ago I was told that I shouldn't use the M6 strap I had because the strap lugs are of a softer metal and can be worn down by that strap.

Thx :)

Hmm, no it's actually a Leica M9-P strap, just without the rubber pad, (which is the first thing i take off on my camera's) but i do not see the difference with this and just a normal keyring type like Luigi or the old ones from Leica, stainless steel is stainless steel is it not?

I keep flirting with the MP (even though I need another body like a hole in the head) and after handling one in the store a little, I realised that it felt like a real anticlimax - my M4's feel as good or even better than the MP's I've had in hand.

So I decided I already have the best unmetered MP around - with my chrome and BP M4's…..

Still an M4 with a meter (read MP) might be nice for quick shooting…

Sigh...

arrived today....beautiful piece...feels very M2...extremely smooth film wind (loaded with TriX ) as we speak...solid build feel and the patina of the black paint is gorgeous..

Crystal clear viewfinder,,, without the bluish tinge of the M2.

a very happy M4 owner, Will post a pic or two shortly and check everything is as it should be.

It's a beauty Andy!

Isn't it a bit strange that of all the "I love my M(x)" threads this one is the least active? It most definitely cannot be because the M4's characteristics.

I must admit I never really gave the M4 any attention until this thread...

after reading more about the particular model being the last 'solid hand made' M I started learning the technicalities.

In principle it is an M2 brother with some different materials being used.

first impressions as mentioned above are very positive...time will tell if it challenges the M2 as my favourite M.:)

the black paint however is very very seductive....;)

best
