I have been browsing through the different threads about bags and have a had a lot of help in where to look for a bag that fulfills my specs:

- M9 w 50/2 + lens hood attached

- room for 13 inch lap top or ....

- iPad plus the bluetooth keyboard from Apple

- Moleskin large note book (13x21 cm)

- chargers/cables

- passport

- be able to "hook" the bag to a cabin trolley for easy transport at airports

- rugged, but it do not have to be completely weather protected

- more look like a briefcase than a camera bag

As you notice from the specs I am looking more for a briefcase/satchel with the possibility of storing a rangefinder w lens than a camera bag. The idea is that I shall be able to always have my camera with me at the same time as the bag should be ok to use in business meeting. I am now down to Billingham Hadley Pro ... I think.

But, before placing an order I would like to hear from the members if there are any other bag you would recommend for the purposes explained above.

Just buy a an affordable travelbag with enough surplus (space) to accept one of the available inserts for your camera and lenses.

Not too bad idea actually... Thx! On the other hand there is also this thing of owing something beautiful and well made.

Since you´re in Stockholm, why not visit Rajala or Scandinavian Photo, or Kameradoktorn and have a look? Think Tank, Tenba, Domke, Crumpler, all make bags in this category.

That said, Billingham Hadleys are fabulous. I have a Hadley Small and 2 Originals, and they do the job and only look better with wear. Only, I don´t think they´re sold in Sweden after YFO went bust earlier this year (2010, that is, for 5 more minutes....). But they can be ordered from Billingham directly.

Have a look at: Nylon Briefcases & Garment Suit Bags by Red Oxx - For Business or Leisure Travel

Some of the best made luggage I have used. Read the reviews. The metro or CPA briefcase or Gator bag would be worth considering. I would definitely not recommend putting your passport in your bag though -- I always use a concealed neck pouch moneybelt.

I have almost the same daily outfit as you.

Think Tank Urban Disguise 40 (Fits Macbook Air like a glove, so probably a iPad and Keyboard also) or 50 (fits a 15 inch macbook pro). Don't let the picture on the thinktank website fool you with a picture of a Canon 1D.. and 70-200. It does fit, but the 40 is on the outer more compact than it looks.

The black Hadley Pro would suit your needs perfectly. The shoulder strap can be tucked inside when you want to carry it like a briefcase, it's smart enough for work, not at all 'camera bag' bulky & the interior lining is particularly soft and smooth to protect your Leica gear.

Regards

Alex

I was a long time user of endless affordable messenger bags (range from 40 − 350 EUR).

Recently, I had the first time the chance, to inspect an Artist & Artisan Oscar's Daybag.

I bought it on the spot.

It is absolutely brilliantly made with finest material, perfect stitching and very nice details.

It is made of an very nice material, to wear daily - no sharp edges, no uncomfortable shoulder strap - everything works fine.

I hold in the bag:

15" Macbook Pro (tightly squeezed without padding, a 15" would be the perfect fitting here)

M8.2 with lens attached (even big lenses like a Noctilux or 90 Cron)

second or even third lens in the second compartment

SF58 or chargers/ cables, pens in the third compartment

pass port, wallet in one front compartment,

keys, small stuff in the other one,

A4 document file in the back document holder

coins, small stuff in the zipped flap

One can change the one or two secondary lenses against a second M body with attached lens

batteries, SD cards, cleaning cloth is in a small soft bag under the camera.

This bag will not fit a full size SLR, it is the most compact messenger style bag, one can have, that holds a computer and one or two M cameras.

Some fine products here. Forgot to mention that RedOxx bags are made in Montana by a former parachute rigger. They are some of the toughest bags you can buy, almost "over engineered" with military-spec stainless steel fittings, ultra durable cordura, and a lifetime warranty. The Gator Bag may be a good option: Red Oxx Gator Compact Carry On Bag - passes Airline restrictions. Comes in all sorts of colors. My CPA briefcase is burgundy and I also have a C-Ruck pack in bright red. I think for business something bright and distinctive but not garish, so it doesn't get lost in the crowd. Al those black bags look identical at the airport! Shipping and service was fast and efficient.

Another vote for Fogg here. I've had the e-flat (black) for about 10 years and have hauled it all over the world with MacBook Pro 15 inch, M6/9, passport, work docs, even the Moleskin!

It curls slightly around the edges now and is elegantly foxed but otherwise as new. No one gives it a second glance in business meetings.

Guess I will go to Rajala (close to my office) and have a look, but still Billingham is Billingham. I have on the other hand also been looking in to this

Billingham & Fogg are great options. But if you want something cheaper then you may want to consider the Tenba Messenger: Tenba - Messenger: Mini Photo/Laptop Bag

I have one as I wanted a bag that didn't scream "This man is a photographer and I carry his expensive camera!" and I'm pretty happy with it.

Cheers,

Bruno

Just want to say a BIG thank you to all of you contributing with ideas re a new work/camera bag. Even though yo spend some considerable time googling you still miss a lot, but with

your suggestions I think I now have a pretty good picture of what the market can offer.

Of the bags suggested the only one I can see in real life here in Stockholm is the Tenba Messenger bag, but I will be in Frankfurt later this month so I will see if I can find some well equipped photo shop which have Billingham/Fogg/ThinkTank etc.

Thx!
