Advertisement Posted December 26, 2010 Posted December 26, 2010 Hi cirke, Take a look here EVF for M9. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
elgenper Posted December 26, 2010 Share #2 Posted December 26, 2010 No, and there won´t be any. Technically impossible for a number of reasons. The ´solution to focus´ comes with the camera, in the shape of an extremely accurate optical rangefinder, which is one of the main reasons for choosing the M9 to begin with. It does take some practise, but it´s worth it. Good luck!
cirke Posted December 26, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted December 26, 2010 which is one of the main reasons for choosing the M9 to begin with the only reason for me not to buy a M9 , without EVF I shall never buy any M body and I think we are many in that case thank you
pop Posted December 26, 2010 Share #4 Posted December 26, 2010 Indeed, if you prefer other kinds of viewfinders, buying a camera which has an optical rangefinder would be contrary to your needs and very unwise. In the case of the M9 it also would be unreasonably expensive, I think.
Steve Ash Posted December 26, 2010 Share #5 Posted December 26, 2010 Luckily there are sufficient people who appreciate the unique rangefinder concept. Feel free to choose among the many camera concepts that satisfy your needs. A search on google for "EVF" will lead your way. Regards Steve
cirke Posted December 26, 2010 Author Share #6 Posted December 26, 2010 I know what is on Google and on the market actually ... nothing really interesting but I am sure Leica M line will have an optional EVF in the future, I can wait
ezc203 Posted December 26, 2010 Share #7 Posted December 26, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I know nothing of Leica's future plans, so this is probably a bold statement. However, I feel the philosophy of Leica M photography does not lend itself to easily incorporate an EVF. The whole point of owning a Leica M is its exceptional OVF/rangefinder system and a different process (as opposed to DSLRs and such). Get the Fuji X100. That's a "rangefinder" with an EVF. luigi bertolotti Posted December 26, 2010 Share #8 Posted December 26, 2010 I think that EVF technology can only evolve, and maybe reach a degree of quality that can satisfy people accustomed to RF... and maybe Leica people too...; but, whatever camera they will be able to build around it, I think it will never be identified as a "M" camera... even if it will accept M lenses. cirke Posted December 26, 2010 Author Share #9 Posted December 26, 2010 I think that EVF technology can only evolve, and maybe reach a degree of quality that can satisfy people accustomed to RF... and maybe Leica people too...; but, whatever camera they will be able to build around it, I think it will never be identified as a "M" camera... even if it will accept M lenses. for me Leica is not a religion but good lenses , if it cannot be identified as a true M , I really don't care anyway if it is optional anyone can be free to buy or not to buy it
stunsworth Posted December 26, 2010 Share #10 Posted December 26, 2010 ...if it cannot be identified as a true M , I really don't careanyway Fair enough, but many people feel very differently and the viewfinder is the reason that they prefer an M to an SLR or an EVF camera. As has been mentioned earlier there will never be an EVF for the M9, which is the answer to your original question.
redbaron Posted December 26, 2010 Share #11 Posted December 26, 2010 Erick, do you actually own, or have you ever owned a Leica, or do you just whine about what they are not?
pop Posted December 26, 2010 Share #12 Posted December 26, 2010 From what we read in the various subforums here, there seems to be a number of very fine cameras from other vendors which can be used with both EVFs and Leica lenses. No need to wait, it seems.
Vieri Posted December 26, 2010 Share #13 Posted December 26, 2010 for me Leica is not a religion but good lenses , if it cannot be identified as a true M , I really don't careanyway if it is optional anyone can be free to buy or not to buy it The "M" name comes from the first letter of the German word for "Rangefinder", this is why Luigi says "it will not be a M" - it has nothing to do with religion, no need to get defensive
pop Posted December 26, 2010 Share #14 Posted December 26, 2010 Still, Leica sold a camera with a simple viewfinder and even one without any finder at all as - gasp - M cameras. This does not bring us closer to the EVF M camera as neither the sensor nor apparently the shutter are compatible with live view.

I hope there will be a solution from Leica to use M lenses on a FF body with another way to focus , that was my very simple question thank you
Shootist Posted December 26, 2010 Share #20 Posted December 26, 2010 the only reason for me not to buy a M9 , without EVF I shall never buy any M bodyand I think we are many in that case thank you If the price was right I would in a heart beat buy a M10 with EVF and focus conformation. What counts in the M line is the lenses. Give me a camera that is as small, easy to use and uses the great M glass, at near it's real focal length, as the M line and doesn't have the inherent problems with the mechanical rangefinder and I would buy it.
