EVF for M9

No, and there won´t be any. Technically impossible for a number of reasons. The ´solution to focus´ comes with the camera, in the shape of an extremely accurate optical rangefinder, which is one of the main reasons for choosing the M9 to begin with. It does take some practise, but it´s worth it. Good luck!

I know nothing of Leica's future plans, so this is probably a bold statement. However, I feel the philosophy of Leica M photography does not lend itself to easily incorporate an EVF. The whole point of owning a Leica M is its exceptional OVF/rangefinder system and a different process (as opposed to DSLRs and such).

Get the Fuji X100. That's a "rangefinder" with an EVF.

I think that EVF technology can only evolve, and maybe reach a degree of quality that can satisfy people accustomed to RF... and maybe Leica people too...;); but, whatever camera they will be able to build around it, I think it will never be identified as a "M" camera... even if it will accept M lenses.

for me Leica is not a religion but good lenses , if it cannot be identified as a true M , I really don't care

anyway if it is optional anyone can be free to buy or not to buy it

Fair enough, but many people feel very differently and the viewfinder is the reason that they prefer an M to an SLR or an EVF camera. As has been mentioned earlier there will never be an EVF for the M9, which is the answer to your original question.

The "M" name comes from the first letter of the German word for "Rangefinder", this is why Luigi says "it will not be a M" - it has nothing to do with religion, no need to get defensive :D

Still, Leica sold a camera with a simple viewfinder and even one without any finder at all as - gasp - M cameras.

This does not bring us closer to the EVF M camera as neither the sensor nor apparently the shutter are compatible with live view.

Not so. The forum is open to all who have an interest in Leica products. And I agree that for some, the lenses by Leica are particularly Leica. Welcome.

Don't pay attention to the resident trolls.

I hope there will be a solution from Leica to use M lenses on a FF body with another way to focus , that was my very simple question

thank you

the only reason for me not to buy a M9 , without EVF I shall never buy any M body

and I think we are many in that case

thank you

If the price was right I would in a heart beat buy a M10 with EVF and focus conformation. What counts in the M line is the lenses. Give me a camera that is as small, easy to use and uses the great M glass, at near it's real focal length, as the M line and doesn't have the inherent problems with the mechanical rangefinder and I would buy it.
