Snowdonia lakeside

Rolo, decided not to make a somg and dance about it - it arrived yesterday :-)

The main reason I was using Canon was as a platform for the Leica glass - the M8 doesn't mean I'll be getting rid of the 5D, but I doubt that the 5D will get out as much in the future. It's good to be using my M lenses again.

Steve,

I'm really pleased for you. Hope it brings you great enjoyment and many fine pics.

Looking forward to see the results, 'cos looking at 'foreign' places is one thing, but art from your back door is something else.

Fortunately, you've got the wonderful North West waiting for you.

Best wishes,

Rolo

Steve,

This one grabs me with the colors, composition and details. Congratulations on the M8. Have you thought about re-visiting Brugge with your M8? Your series of several years ago was great, but it would be interesting to see what you could do there with the M8.

Taken this afternoon near Llanberis in Snowdonia. The top left bothers me a little - I'd prefer it with a less blown out character.

Hi Steve,

That is a very pretty shot. If you want to avoid blown highlights, a quick and easy way is to take the shot, hit Play, then Info, and the red parts of the histogram show you where the highlights are blown on the image (they are bright red). Then look at the shutter speed and manually chose one a stop faster and try again. The M8 holds detail in the shadows really well, so it is a simple thing to bump up that part of the file in C1 (or whatever you are using).

Looking at this again this morning, and with all due respect, the quality of this image, even at this resolution, is way ahead of what you have been able to squeeze out of your 5D.

It would be interesting to do a side-by-side comparison.

Thanks everyone. I've only had the camera one day, but so far I can say that I'm very, very pleased with it. The Leica glass is outstanding.

Andy, I don't have a side by side comparison I'm afraid, but here's a section of the above at 100% magnification - and no sharpening.

Nice snap. I'm not bothered by the haze. Only passed by this spot briefly in June of 2004 on a long scenic run with four other cars and the skies were like lead. Only the peak on the right was illuminated. A friend had a go with a long lens and 20D but the result was marginal. Being in the right place at the right time is certainly important! :)

Just realised I didn't answer Michael's question. I would love to go back to Brugge, I'm not sure if I'd want to go in the main tourist season though, maybe winter would be better - which was the time of year I went last time.

Peter, I haven't printed anything off yet - so far I've been getting to grips with the camera.

William/Ron, thanks, I came round a bend in the road and saw the light you can see here. I was very lucky. The sun was only just out of the shot, once again showing how flare resistant the Nocti is.
