robert_parker Posted December 21, 2010 Share #1 Posted December 21, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Everyone It's been suggested that it might be fun to have a meeting of the London Leica Louts and others who might like to come during the 'Dog Days' between Christmas and New Year. Possible dates would be 30th (December, or it doesen't work as I said previously ) or 31st, if a New Year's meet proved to be practical. Agenda is open but it might be nice to go West this time, since we've been East and South of the River several times and North as well, so I was going to propose something relevant to things that only occur at this time of year, such as: 1) Meet at the Natural History Museum, where there is an outdoor skating rink (the Cafe Bar is open to non-skaters, so no need to book) 2) Recover from possible injuries (sustained in the bar:)) and wander up the Brompton Road into Knightsbridge and past Harrods, round the corner to the German Market at the end of Hyde Park, which will allow stops for gluwein, bratwurst, kartoffelsalad and possibly even beer... 3) Survivors edge on towards Picadilly, to roam through the Picadilly Arcade and possibly finish at the Chandos, or similar place (of which there are many) near Leicester Square. The proposed route has lots of cafes and stops along the way and is also backed up by a tube line (Picadilly, which should be running) which means that those who don't want to walk the whole distance can hop ahead, or escape as they prefer. Let me know what you think...

biglouis Posted December 21, 2010 Share #3 Posted December 21, 2010 Robert The date works for me and I like the itinery. Not sure I can walk all the way from South Ken to the Chandos but I'll give it a try (or drop out if it is too much). Well done for getting the ball rolling on this. Falstaff Posted December 22, 2010 Share #5 Posted December 22, 2010 Greetings Londoners. Weather etc permitting, I too would like to join you. I too like the itinerary, particularly the thought of being flogged from South Ken to Piccadilly . Not clear to me if it's the 30th or 31st? Time? Thanks. farnz Posted December 23, 2010 Share #6 Posted December 23, 2010 Count me in please, Robert, and I'm available on either day though I'd prefer the 30th to stay clear of New Year's Eve arrangements. Well, we can kiss that decade goodbye. It doesn't seem so long ago that I was working out arrangements for the Millennium celebrations. Pete.

robert_parker Posted December 24, 2010 Author Share #10 Posted December 24, 2010 Greetings Londoners.Weather etc permitting, I too would like to join you. I too like the itinerary, particularly the thought of being flogged from South Ken to Piccadilly . Not clear to me if it's the 30th or 31st? Time? Thanks. Falstaff I've deliberately left that bit vague as threads like this tend to 'evolve' with suggestions and convenient days / timings, so at this stage could I suggest we make it Thursday 30th December (2010) at 12.30 - 1pm, meeting at the skating rink bar at The Natural History Museum. That should allow for a combination of daylight photography for those who want it and the main waypoints are themselves illuminated, as the daylight subsides. As said, the tube parallells the route, so anyone who doesen't feel like the walk on the day can hop ahead as the mood takes them. Directions are here http://www.nhm.ac.uk/visit-us/getting-here/index.html nearest tube is South Kensington which is on the District, Circle and Picadilly lines and all of the waypoints are covered by the Picadilly line. robert_parker Posted December 24, 2010 Author Share #11 Posted December 24, 2010 As a 'just in case', should the bar be closed / full of Sloanies / or we get thrown out, I'll go to the main entrance of the Natural Hisory Museum at 1pm to pick up survivors.... No such thing as ‘dog days’ in my world - I’ve got an impending deadline, so need to get back to work on the 29th. So I'll have to give this one a miss. Best regards, Doug

farnz Posted December 31, 2010 Share #20 Posted December 31, 2010 Thank you to Robert for organising a very pleasant London forum meet up. I suspect that we may have created a record for miles travelled per person to attend the meet up because 3 of the 4 attendees travelled from the New Forest, Somerset, and Manchester. Thank you, Gents, for making the effort. A few pictures from the day: Pete. Welcome, dear visitor!
