Doc Henry Posted December 14, 2010 Author Share #5  Posted December 14, 2010 Thank you Stuart,Paul and Turner for your nice comments.  Stuart, It's in the Thoiry African Reserve  On the use of the M9 and 90mm for this kind of picture,i think it's easier with my R8 and my R cron 90mm, than with the M9, i admit.  I do not know what think Michali , Jaap ,Doug (the Birdman of Sacramento) or Stuart (who has a DMR).  Another picture slightly enlarged. Note the excellent image quality. A good point for the M9 and 90mm Summicron Apo Asph.  Paul, i admit I was scared !  Henry

wildlightphoto Posted December 14, 2010 Share #8 Â Posted December 14, 2010 A beautiful photo, I think it would have been improved if you had moved a little to one side or the other so the large tree trunk didn't look like it was growing out of her head. Jamie Roberts Posted December 14, 2010 Share #10 Â Posted December 14, 2010 Great shots, but they look like they have quite a colour cast. Can you neutralize the blackpoint and whitepoint a bit? I think it will look a lot more arresting!

Jamie Roberts Posted December 15, 2010 Share #12 Â Posted December 15, 2010 Hi Henry-- Â Yes... that looks a lot better to me I think a lot of the captures could use the same contrast and wp / bp adjustment, and I like what you did with the last one! It might even use a bit more on the absolute whitepoint, but you know what the day looked like better than I do

Michael Geschlecht Posted December 19, 2010 Share #17  Posted December 19, 2010 Hello Henry,  Nice Photos.  I like them just the way they are. Seems to me we are looking @ what you saw. Not what you might have wanted to see. This is what I try to do w/ my photographs. The world as it actually is. Not the one we would like it to be. If we don't like what is there we should change the world. Not the photograph.  I might have considered moving the first although certainly not the second tree (like it) elsewhere as Doug suggested. I would not have considered moving the first if it would have cost losing the lioness's expression & composition (unrelated to the tree). Life is like photography. Sometimes you have to give up this to get that.  I prefer if there happens to be a tree in the world in which you capture her image so well the tree stays in your print. The cost of truth. A small cost.  Silly, I guess.  Best Regards,  Michael  BTW, Was there a very clean Lexan wall between you & her @ what was perhaps 6 meters & closer? This is exactly what I thought. Sometimes you can not move if you want to capture quickly the lion's facial expression and it's happening so fast we just had time to shoot The tree is just behind at 1 meter  Regards Happy Christmas Henry
Michael Geschlecht Posted December 19, 2010 Share #19  Posted December 19, 2010 Hello Again Henry,  But how far away from you was the Lioness in the first & subsequent pictures?  Joyeux Noel  Best Regards,  Michael
ldhrads Posted December 20, 2010 Share #20 Â Posted December 20, 2010 Henry, I'll join the chorus of well wishers, These are beautiful photos, the first is indeed my favorite. All of these photos though are just beatiful. Â As for the color cast, you know what the day was like, was it overcast and cold like the first photos suggest? or perhaps a bit warmer like the corrected ones? Â In either case, the subject was greatly captured
