martha Posted December 8, 2010 Share #1 Posted December 8, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just wondering if anyone has compiled statistics on the geographical distribution of M8 forum contributors...my totally unscientific guessing suggests many more British and European contributors than US/Australia/Far East contributors. (Administrator: please move or remove if this is an inappropriate query.) --martha

Michael Geschlecht Posted December 8, 2010 Share #4 Posted December 8, 2010 Hello Martha, It appears to me that this is the breakdown within many categories throughout the English language Forum. This is something which might have more to do w/ where Forum members who choose to write come from than where M8s are used. Along w/ the concentrations of geographical distributions - Women appear to participate in smaller numbers today than men but noticibally more so now than when I began writing here about a year ago. This is significant. We all benefit from what we can learn from a perspective more reflective of the World we live in & its circumstance. Best Regards, Michael

WestMichigan Posted December 9, 2010 Share #7 Posted December 9, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hey there 'Pop', I like your avatar and your 'sig line'. I only really know H.G.Wells from the famous radio play incident and seeing movies of both the incident and of the play. Looks like I ought to look up a book or two of his to peruse. OH! I've seen a couple of iterations of 'the time machine', but not read that one either. R in Mi.
pop Posted December 10, 2010 Share #8 Posted December 10, 2010 Hi "West" - thank you very much. The Avatar is me peering over the edge. The signature is from the book I'm currently reading. Yo can do worse than reading some Wells. That guy practically invented single-handedly each and every sub-genre of science fiction, second not even to Jules Verne. Hailing from Switzerland, btw, near the lovely city of Basel.
RichardM8 Posted December 10, 2010 Share #9 Posted December 10, 2010 Most forum software has a poll option. Why not here?
WestMichigan Posted December 10, 2010 Share #10 Posted December 10, 2010 Excellent Suggestion, Richard. .... Not sure of the dynamics though. Most Forum Polls I've seen have 3, 4, or 5, selectable radio buttons while there are like 195 countries in the world (give or take a few disputed ones). Might be logistically challenging. Pretty sure such 'demographics' are readily available to the 'Forum' Administrators, though via google analytics or similar outfits. Richard in Mich Most forum software has a poll option. bill Posted December 10, 2010 Share #13 Posted December 10, 2010 Whilst it's a reasonable question and I don't wish to spoil your enjoyment, the chances are that any "statistics" you capture on this thread are going to be meaningless, or for fun at best. Anyone who responds represents a subset of the total M8-owning forum population - those who have spotted the thread and who can be bothered to respond. Equally there may be those who spot it and actively choose not to respond, or even to - horrors! - lie or dissemble about their location. Human beings are funny animals. As to a poll, the facility does exist, but it is (rightly, IMO) restricted to setup by Mods and used very sparingly. After all, we don't want this to turn into RFF, do we? Carry on... karl101 Posted December 13, 2010 Share #17 Posted December 13, 2010 Presumably, if you were to put the pins in the map you would find clusters of M8.x owners near Leica dealerships? Karl.
Knomad Posted December 16, 2010 Share #18 Posted December 16, 2010 Northern California coast. And I can add a dot for a friend with an M8 in Dana Point (SoCal coast), as far as I know he's not on this forum. I really enjoy the international composition of this forum, it makes for a much more diverse perspective on things.

!Nomad64 Posted December 17, 2010 Share #20 Posted December 17, 2010 Genoa, Italy @ Bill: May I respectfully point out that statistics are not conducted over the whole population but on a number of randomly selected samples which are representative of the whole. Therefore the subset of the worldwide M8 population should however provide an indication about how we're scattered. Best regards Bruno
