Muizen Posted November 26, 2010 Share #1 Posted November 26, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am considering the purchase of a Summilux 35mm. A new one 11874 M-35MM F1.4 SUMMILUX BLA ASPH will cost me €3011. There are second hand versions that cost quite a lot more! How is this possible? lct Posted November 26, 2010 Share #3 Posted November 26, 2010 I am considering the purchase of a Summilux 35mm. A new one 11874 M-35MM F1.4 SUMMILUX BLA ASPH will cost me €3011. There are second hand versions that cost quite a lot more! How is this possible? Yours is not the current version (11663, 2010-) but the previous one (11874, 1994-2010). What serial number does it have?
Muizen Posted November 26, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted November 26, 2010 Yours is not the current version (11663, 2010-) but the previous one (11874, 1994-2010). What serial number does it have? How is it possible that the newest version has a lower product number? 11874 is old and 11663 is the newest version which is sold as" new" in a Leica shop.? This seems to be very "un-German"? I will have to ask the Leica shop what the serial number is.
lct Posted November 26, 2010 Share #5 Posted November 26, 2010 How is it possible that the newest version has a lower product number? 11874 is old and 11663 is the newest version which is sold as" new" in a Leica shop.? This seems to be very "un-German"?... More Leica than German probably. The last Tri-Elmar 28-50 was 11625 for instance and the previous one 11890 IINW ; or the first Summilux-M 75/1.4 was 11814 and the last one 11810. This said there is no free lunch. The last price of the previous 35/1.4 asph in Leica shops was € 3,350 in Europe so € 3,011 might be a fair price if the lens does not come from the last century. Edit: The current 35/1.4 in UE Leica shops is selling for € 3,750 with many months' wait.
Muizen Posted November 26, 2010 Author Share #6 Posted November 26, 2010 What is the technical difference between a Summilux 35mm ASPH no: 11874 and a Summilux-M 35mm Asherical lens no: 11663 which seems to be the most recent version?
lct Posted November 26, 2010 Share #7 Posted November 26, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have none of them so i can only say that the current one has floating elements and shows less focus shift than the previous one. Also its bokeh looks a bit smoother. Both great lenses anyway but focus shift may be a problem if you shoot digital.
