Since you are getting into accessories I would absolutely recommend TumbsUp and/or the Sling from Leicagoodies.com.

ThumbsUp gives you a firm grip and together with the Sling you can hang the camera conveniently with your fingers. Together with the soft release button these really boost the handling of the M body.

Another noteworthy accessory is a Manfrotto digi table tripod. As you know the M8 sensor is not that great on high ISO so the minitripod (which btw slips perfectly in the Billingham for Leica bag side pocket) is quite handy at times.

Hi all,

I've have found something that's a little weird with my 8.2. The imposed images (is that the right description?) in the focus patch of the finder don't align perfectly with each other when focused.

The difference is very small but it's there and the image in the focus patch never gets 100% sharp. Just off by a whiff. My dealer had a look at it too and saw the same thing, also with a different lens.

As far as I can see it doesn't affect the pictures. They're tack sharp. My dealer said he wouldn't do anything about it unless it really annoys me or if I really want to.

What do you think?

Richard.

I don't think your dealer is being straight up with you if he thinks it's best not to address this problem. The M8 is a very complicated & precise instrument. Have him make it right & don't wait on this. You shouldn't be trying to make adjustments. Have him take responsibility & do the right thing. You will regret this if you don't.

You should understand that when you by Leica equipment, it will always need care & repairs from time to time. It's better to see things as they are then not. Also, I recommend getting in touch with one of the better repair specialists like Don Goldberg (DAG) in Wisconsin or look in the Forum for the lists of certified Leica techs for future work. Leica customer service in inundated with M9 & new lens issues, so future repairs, CLA & other matters can be addressed at lower costs using one of the many fine people that have been servicing our community for many years.

Get your dealer to man up!

Personally I find Steve's thumb rest (forum member 250SWB) more practical and more elegant.

I'm not sure if I understand your reply Ben.

He's perfectly willing to send it to Leica and get it sorted. I also have warranty. And I'm not trying to fiddle with it myself. He only said that the mis-alignment is visible but so small that it doesn't affect the use of the camera in any way. So from that point he said only to address this if it really bugs me. That's all. They are truly an excellent dealer...

@Jaap, which thumb rest is that?

Richard, it seems that your dealer is very clever.

I'm guessing that your cam is second hand, ok?

So your dealer didn't check this issue when he received this cam from the first user and in the end he didn't check it again after sale. In the end he has your money, you are loosing warranty time and interests for your money......

So it was cheaper for him to sell this cam first and start then the warranty claim. Other way round he would have no cam, no money for it, nothing to show in the window and no sale of a lens.....

I suppose it's a Leica dealer so there must be persons who are familiar with rangefinder issues. The out-of-alignment-patch is very common for RF. You'll find them with Bessas, Leicas and Mamiya 6+7 or ZIs, nearly all RF cams show this effect, sometimes fresh from the factory.

In your case I would claim that for the waiting time you get your money back plus the X1 for shooting, that would be fair when your dealer is customer minded, or not?

I had the same issue with a M8.2 in Düsseldorf, but with my RF experience I found this in a second and turned away.

Yes. But it's one in near mint condition that has seen very little use. M8.2s in this condition and at a good/reasonable price are not easily found here. They also gave me a good trade-in price for my X1.

I only need to decide if the very slight mis-alignment annoys me enough to get it fixed. There's no rush. In the meantime the camera works perfect!

@MikeD700, Usually there is about 1000 euro difference between a new old stock M8 and M8.2. Edward, the prices on this side of the pond seem to be quite different.

1000 euro doesn't buy you the .2 upgrades afterwards...

I'm getting a little more acquainted with my new mistress... Something of a weird scene I saw today. A little post to add some drama.

I'm not sure Nicole. The table and chairs were standing on a floating barge. My guess is it was something of an artistic display (in the making) from an architect agency close by. The building in the back is the Amsterdam maritime museum that is getting a makeover taking almost 2 years.

The one below is shot from the 'Zeedijk', a famous street in Amsterdam and more or less the entrance of the red light district. Perspective correction is a challenge 'cos there's no way of telling which building is straight up. They're all some 300 years old.

Hello.

M8.2 I recently bought a very new, clean.

My previous camera was the M8, but the M8.2 and improvements attract me so much that I have not hesitated to change. So far everything is satisfactory, my camera is practically new, the M8 had those brown spots on your screen and it was ugly, this does not present anything unusual, I've tried all the ISO and there is nothing on the screen or anything else, I updated to 2,005 today and all fine.

I paid 900 euros in Spain and my M8 for the new M8.2, I think is a very good price.

I have a new M7 of the last version, and 28 cron ASPH code, 50 cron code and 75 lux.

Also I have a Canon 1 Ds MK II and cron 50 code and 100 APO macro code for it, but the Leica M series is very special to me.

Greetings.

The first photo wiht my new M8.2

The photograph was treated to blur the model.
