stuny Posted January 17, 2007 Share #1 Posted January 17, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) After this pair I’ll give you a break for a while from the fisherwomen of the Sepik. However, imagine our excitement to come around a bend in the river to see this. More on the second page of our Papua New Guinea photo gallery on our site. Advertisement Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 Hi stuny, Take a look here In a Row & In a Group (2 images) . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jmr Posted January 17, 2007 Share #2 Posted January 17, 2007 Stuart, really good images. Have you tried cropping the first one into a fairly tight square on the three figures, I think it would be quite powerful.
martinop Posted January 17, 2007 Share #3 Posted January 17, 2007 Like #1. Agree with JMR's cropping comments. The hand / arm @ the upper left side is a minor distraction (to me).

stuny Posted January 17, 2007 Author Share #5 Posted January 17, 2007 John & Paul - Thank you, and good idea. If I have a chance this evening I'll try that crop and add it to this thread. Armin - Thank you.
stuny Posted January 17, 2007 Author Share #6 Posted January 17, 2007 I took John & Paul's suggestion and cropped it. While I was at it I also converted a cropped version to black & white. Thoughts?

martinop Posted January 18, 2007 Share #10 Posted January 18, 2007 Cropping also works for me. Like the impact of the BW version.
richam Posted January 18, 2007 Share #11 Posted January 18, 2007 Stuart, Agree with the other comments -- amazing and extraordinary images. As for the crop, it works nicely and improves the impact of the subjects. As for b&w, I usually prefer it unless color is part of the story. In this case, the skin colors, body painting and green flora are just that -- more information about the people, climate, and region. The b&w emphasizes the tones and patterns, but loses part of the story.

azzo Posted January 18, 2007 Share #13 Posted January 18, 2007 Very strong images as your usual Stuart. Well seen, framed and captured. IMHO, I would not crop the 1st this way if anything Stuart, but from the top till slightly above the off centred large leaf, from the left i'd crop what's left seen from the man's arm and from the right just over the vertical whitish weed. This crop retains the dugout canoe, which enhances this image more. Best Azzo.
stuny Posted January 18, 2007 Author Share #14 Posted January 18, 2007 Ivan - Thanks. I'll try that when I get home tonight. I amost always find your advice to be spot-on.
stuny Posted January 19, 2007 Author Share #15 Posted January 19, 2007 Ivan - Here are both color and B&W versions of your suggested crop. I like it. thoughts?
azzo Posted January 19, 2007 Share #16 Posted January 19, 2007 Stuart, this is what i meant. Very minor adjustments but retaining what IMHO was very nice and important in this image. Color or b&w ? Very difficult choice. I like both versions very much. Again, very well seen and very well captured Stuart, well done. Ivan.
spylaw4 Posted January 19, 2007 Share #17 Posted January 19, 2007 Great picture Stuart. IMHO the last crop is the best and although the B&W is v good, the colour adds so much more.
