coup de foudre Posted November 11, 2010 Share #2 Posted November 11, 2010 in the time it takes to do steps 2, 3, and 4, the shot is gone i prefer to live in the past and actually take pictures...
Guest stnami Posted November 12, 2010 Share #3 Posted November 12, 2010 the app is meant for architecture landscape etc...... most buildings aren't going anywhere fast ( well the ones without wheels),......... anyway it is more of a mental guide. lct Posted November 12, 2010 Share #4 Posted November 12, 2010 Showing f/16 as the sharpest aperture might seem somewhat questionable for digital cameras at first glance. What are the plusses of this tool compared to lens DoF markings in your opinion?
Guest stnami Posted November 12, 2010 Share #5 Posted November 12, 2010 for those camera lenses without markings the answer is probably ........yes

Jamie Roberts Posted November 12, 2010 Share #8 Posted November 12, 2010 Showing f/16 as the sharpest aperture might seem somewhat questionable for digital cameras at first glance. What are the plusses of this tool compared to lens DoF markings in your opinion? The nice thing about the app is that it takes into account output print resolution at 10" and the tradeoff in diffraction from stopping down. So it's very interesting overall, and beyond the DOF guides on the lens in any case.... Of course, I rarely shoot this way. But for buildings and landscapes, it's useful for sure. lct Posted November 12, 2010 Share #9 Posted November 12, 2010 Why not after all. I could use my dusty iphone this way. Don't know if it's a "3G" though.
farnz Posted November 12, 2010 Share #10 Posted November 12, 2010 I don't see how OptimumCS can claim to be accurate since it doesn't take into account the size of sensor, which has a major influence on zones of sharpness. "OptimumCS’s intuitive operation and instant results are geared towards the needs of creative professionals and enthusiasts who don’t want their tools to get in the way of their work or their art." But isn't OptimumCS, itself, a tool that's getting in the way? I won't be buying it but thanks for the link anyway, Imants. Pete.
Guest stnami Posted November 13, 2010 Share #11 Posted November 13, 2010 Yea it is a bit rich for leica buyers OptimumCS is available now on the App Store priced at $2.49.
coup de foudre Posted November 13, 2010 Share #12 Posted November 13, 2010 Imants, it's not you or the actual program (or the exorbitant cost) that's the problem (i love when people give a heads up to stuff like this)... it's the grandiose hyperbole they used in their description (modern era my @$$) that begs to be ridiculed. my boyfriend found a lovely metering app that i'm definitely going to install (it's definitely my weakest point). not to use whilst shooting, but as a teaching tool... it's all good! Guest stnami Posted November 13, 2010 Share #13 Posted November 13, 2010 Hell I am still using the Nokia 8210..........I think 1999 is when it came out which means I have one somewhere or my wife gives me a phone that I usually forget to put on............... yearly bill $15 dollars and I usually only use up about $7 so $2.49 is big bickies for me for something I can't use

h00ligan Posted November 18, 2010 Share #19 Posted November 18, 2010 Pretty handy, I like it. I just want to make sure that I am supposed to list the actual focal range of the lens, having set crop factor, rather than the multiplied(I believe this is true). Pretty handy!
