stuu Posted November 7, 2010 Share #1 Posted November 7, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi there i am not a leica owner yet but joined this forum to see if anyone could help me. I collect old cameras and while wandering around an antique market today i came across a wooden bodied leica along the same design as a rangefinder with brass lense and brass leica screw on lens cap on a stall that sold ww1 and ww2 german memorabilia, I was tempted to buy it but as not seeing one before it was a bit new to me i thought it could be a bit of a risk considering the priceand the fact of the shutter needing replacing. I have searched the internet now for hours to see if i could find any info on the camera but came up on a blank so i decided to seek help here to see if the camera was made or if its a home made thing. Thanks Stu

stunsworth Posted November 7, 2010 Share #2 Posted November 7, 2010 Stu, welcome to the forum. It's more likely than not a Russian fake based on a Fed original. There are lots of these on places like eBay... Leica II D Kriegsmarine copy Gold/wood in leather case! on eBay (end time 08-Nov-10 07:17:50 GMT)
stuu Posted November 7, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted November 7, 2010 Nah it didnt look like that, the wood was alot lighter and it was brass without the german badges etc, more like a standard rangefinder just made in wood. May have to go back and have a look and take a few pictures of it.
luigi bertolotti Posted November 8, 2010 Share #4 Posted November 8, 2010 I'haven't well understood... it's a WOODEN body but with a REGULAR shutter (even if not working) ? Afaik there aren't items like this ... wooden display models do exist, indeed, but they are completely unoperative, even if they have some brass detail. Anyway, curios items that haven't significant value...
jaapv Posted November 8, 2010 Share #5 Posted November 8, 2010 There is this little factory in the Black Forest... Shutter repair? I guess the cuckoo got stuck?
earleygallery Posted November 8, 2010 Share #6 Posted November 8, 2010 It was a branch of cameras which is little known, you have seen the extremely valuable and rare prototype, Leica found a shortage of whitlers and woodn’t make them in volume, so decided to leave the wooden camera market alone, they were literally barking up the wrong tree with that one!
