Ansel's Tree I

This is located on the West Rim and Angel's Landing Trails at Zion, sits on the edge a sheer cliff, looks like it's about to take flight over the canyon. Years ago, when I first saw this tree I took a few photos; and later discovered images of the same tree by Ansel Adams. Since then, every time I hike that trail and reach this tree, it's like a reunion with the Master :)

Ece,

A great shot. I can see Ansel standing next to the tree at the left with his dark-cloth over his 8x10 view camera. Did he talk to you?

Incidentally, one of the finest books Ansel published was "Examples, the making of 40 photographs" where he went into great detail how he made some of his most famous pictures.

Paul, Mike, Stuart, and Mike,

I am glad to hear that you've liked this. I appreciate the supportive input and comments very much.

Paul, wasn't he a remarkable teacher? When I read his books (like the camera series) I am always amazed at the obsessive character of his approach to not only the art and craft of image making but also the teaching.

Mike, I think the tree was doing better during his day. But it is reassuring to see it up there, surviving the droughts and the rest, continuing to keep watch.

Mark, I was trying to come up with a way to connect the image to my experience of being there and everything that the experience conjures up consciously and otherwise (for me, at least). I don't use toning like this, but in this case, it felt right.
