ho_co Posted November 6, 2010 Share #2 Posted November 6, 2010 I think I've seen a couple people saying yes. Check out the threads http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/digital-forum/143096-benefits-d-lux-5-over-d.html http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/digital-forum/142280-d-lux-4-owners-whos-upgrading.html http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/digital-forum/145657-opted-out-dl5-got-lx5.html
jjonsalt Posted November 6, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted November 6, 2010 Thanks, I think there is something like $200 difference between the two brands.
girphoto Posted November 6, 2010 Share #4 Posted November 6, 2010 Any reports if Panasonic's DMW-LVF1 will work with the D-Lux 5? Yes, I am using one on my DLUX-5. i purchased a LN one from KEH for $126.00 instead of the same finder with Leica on it for $385. I have used it now for 10 days every day and it works great. I will buy the new LVF2 when it is available.
jjonsalt Posted November 6, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted November 6, 2010 I have not seen anything about a LVF2.

farnz Posted November 7, 2010 Share #7 Posted November 7, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have not seen anything about a LVF2. It's only wishware, vapour and supposition at the moment and there seems doubt that if it was to be higher res than the current EVF that the current bodies would have the processing power or infrastructure to support it. jjonsalt Posted November 7, 2010 Author Share #8 Posted November 7, 2010 Leica View finders for sale on ebay under D-Lux 5 and Batteries. Jan They are less expensive at popflash.com
leicanut2 Posted November 7, 2010 Share #9 Posted November 7, 2010 They are less expensive at popflash.com I have not checked his web site yet but I just got the hand grip and a extra battery for the DL-5 from him on Ebay. I will check out his site right now. Maybe he has to up the cost to cover ebay fees, it is getting expensive to sell on ebay. Forum might be a better place to sell Leica stuff. Thanks Jan
jjonsalt Posted November 7, 2010 Author Share #10 Posted November 7, 2010 I payed $87 for the grip and $79 for the battery.
leicanut2 Posted November 8, 2010 Share #11 Posted November 8, 2010 I payed $87 for the grip and $79 for the battery. You did do better than me, I have put pop flash on my list. I have got things from them before but always on ebay, I will now FIRST check the web site. Cheers and Thanks again, Jan.
tcrown Posted November 8, 2010 Share #12 Posted November 8, 2010 They are less expensive at popflash.com Somehow within my experience, popflash has been really pleasant but also really cheap compared to prominent Leica retailers like Adorama or B&H photo. I start to wonder if popflash photo is selling legitimate Leica US versions or Grey market versions? TC
farnz Posted November 8, 2010 Share #13 Posted November 8, 2010 ... I start to wonder if popflash photo is selling legitimate Leica US versions or Grey market versions? As far as I'm aware, having purchased a number of items from Popflash, it is a fully legitimate business selling legitimate products. I have also never heard any suggestion otherwise either in 'Webland' or elsewhere. Pete.

jjonsalt Posted November 12, 2010 Author Share #15 Posted November 12, 2010 In this instance, unlike with the LX5 vs D-Lux 5, there seems to truly be no difference other the the name and $250.
anderswi Posted December 17, 2010 Share #16 Posted December 17, 2010 Yes! Vanity has always had its price. Imagine a japanese car rebadged with a german top brand, at double cost.
MikeMyers Posted December 18, 2010 Share #17 Posted December 18, 2010 After being overwhelmingly frustrated at trying to capture video with my LX5, using it in bright sunlight, and often "guessing" what was on the screen, I called B&H and had them ship me the Live ViewFinder. I got it today. I got my videos to work anyway, but the outdoor ones were mostly guesswork. I love the video quality this camera can achieve - even when uploaded to youtube, when I play the videos back at 720p, it's more than I ever imagined this camera can do. Example: Has anyone tried adding some kind of handgrip to make these cameras a little more stable when recording video? I was thinking of something maybe like the grips they used to sell for a Bolex 8mm movie camera, or better yet, something that would rest on your shoulder like a rifle, with the camera mounted so you could either watch the LCD, or the small "live view" finder. MikeMyers Posted December 18, 2010 Share #19 Posted December 18, 2010 Er, no... I was thinking "simple". What you've got there is a MUCH better answer to what I was trying to achieve. Thanks! Now I've got to see if anyone in the USA is selling these things. I wonder if trying to use the manual 'zoom' control would defeat what this thing is doing? Instead of only holding the device by the handle, there would be one hand on the camera. If it works as is seen in the demonstration videos, it would be an improved way to make videos with these cameras.
stunsworth Posted December 18, 2010 Share #20 Posted December 18, 2010 Getting the thing balanced seems to be the key, so manual zooming would be out of the question IMHO. I think they ship internationally.
