Advertisement Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 Hi ChiILX1, Take a look here Leica X1 vs Panny GF2. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
nigelb Posted November 4, 2010 Share #2 Â Posted November 4, 2010 Well this announcement was posted in an earlier thread, and I have zero interest too...
h00ligan Posted November 4, 2010 Share #3 Â Posted November 4, 2010 I could care less about touch screen. The loss of the mode dial was a big mistake imo. Â 18% smaller than the gf1 - same sensor though, even though they have developed and released a better sensor.. they are clearly trying to keep costs down and appeal to the point and shoot crowd updating to nex. Â I just posted a really simple real world comparison of a shot indoors between the gf1 and x1 in the m9 vs x1 low light thread. I don't see how the gf2 results will be any better.. of course I could be wrong!
marknorton Posted November 4, 2010 Share #4 Â Posted November 4, 2010 I could care less about touch screen. Â Think about it, this is a totally meaningless statement. If you could care less, why don't you? Â The expression you're looking for is "I couldn't care less". Â This camera has no interest to me. I'm very much enjoying a Nikon P7000 which has proper dials..
Guest stnami Posted November 4, 2010 Share #5 Â Posted November 4, 2010 camera touch screen haters buy iphones, ipads, widows7 phones etc and other touch screen gadgets. No double standards on this forum:)
h00ligan Posted November 4, 2010 Share #6 Â Posted November 4, 2010 Well, you're right, but I could care less as well. It works well for some devices, on a camera I could or couldn't care less.. i'm indifferent. Â Thanks for the correction. I should have paid more attention. Â Stnami _ it works well on a phone for the most part... it works well on the ipad until typing... i guess touch focusing isn't necessary, so that would be fine. Â Is it capacitive or resistive - anyone know?
tcrown Posted November 5, 2010 Share #7 Â Posted November 5, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Doesn't GH2 also have touchscreen focusing feature? Â Ever since I tested out FX500(little p&s with touchscreen feature) almost 3 years ago, I tried to adopt every touchscreen cameras, however, they were all disappointing including Nikon ones. In my belief, touchscreen focusing is still a slow way to focus. Â If I am ever attracted to GF1 or GF2, it would be the size advantage over X1 in terms to interchangeable lens (now including 3D lens).
h00ligan Posted November 5, 2010 Share #8 Â Posted November 5, 2010 So long as it isn't required to focus and it is responsive in the menus, I don't care either way. A mode dial and articulating screen would be more beneficial to non pas upgraders I'd think. Gf1 -gf2. No reason to upgrade that I can see.
cheewai_m6 Posted November 10, 2010 Share #9 Â Posted November 10, 2010 i'm actually considering x1 or gf1. one thing is for sure, i will not be considering gf2. still leaning towards x1 though. i know a couple of people looking gf1, i wonder what they'd think. Photojazz Posted January 14, 2011 Share #10 Â Posted January 14, 2011 what always interested me about panny was the Leica glass, Now you don't even get that right? Thrill is gone for me, X1 stays

stunsworth Posted January 14, 2011 Share #12 Â Posted January 14, 2011 what always interested me about panny was the Leica glass, Now you don't even get that right? Â To the best of my knowledge all the Leica lenses used in Panasonic products are manufactured by Panasonic not Leica.
Photojazz Posted January 14, 2011 Share #13  Posted January 14, 2011 The original Leica Lenses on Panasonic cameras were manufactured in Japan, but under Leica supervision. today's lenses may well be "good", but most don't wear the Leica badge to my knowledge. does it mean they are any less quality, that I cannot say. But points taken. Doesn't mean I am a Leica snob either. Just personal experience.  I do know the optic quality of my L1 camera with a 14-42 Leica lens was outstanding image wise. It was the camera that was lacking then. It was a FUN camera, but we'll call it electronically challenged ergonomically speaking. I REALLY wanted to keep that lens and ditch the camera and hold it for a 4:3 better body at some point, however, in the end, I sold it, lost my shirt on my little Leica/Panny addiction. I had 2 or 3. Digilux 1, L1, etc... There was something about the imagery of those shots that I really liked.  This image iwth my Panny L1 always stuck with me as having that Leica quality. It was the lens, the camera was along for the ride---  http://doug-photojazz.smugmug.com/Photographers-Corner/Previous-Owned-Equipment/Smokies-All-L1-shots-Leica-14/P1000079/156501062_WTcJr-XL.jpg  This one pretty nice too...  http://doug-photojazz.smugmug.com/Photographers-Corner/Previous-Owned-Equipment/Smokies-All-L1-shots-Leica-14/P1000134/157212241_tWXYJ-XL.jpg
DwF Posted January 14, 2011 Share #14  Posted January 14, 2011 Photojazz  Those images look really good. They look like Pacific NW in spite of that there are no conifers in sight  Also, to my recollection, there is an adapter to use M lenses on the GF1 (and GF@ I'd imagine).  David
250swb Posted January 14, 2011 Share #15 Â Posted January 14, 2011 The Panasonic m4/3 lenses are actually very good. Â They are. Â As regards the 'this vs that' debate, at this point in the cycle its probably worth waiting for the GF3. Which if the logic of Panasonic development is maintained will have the new 16mp sensor and the user friendly photographers dials back on the camera. It can't be far away. Allnm Posted January 18, 2011 Share #16 Â Posted January 18, 2011 Well, the GF2 isnt released just yet, but as far as I can see it is a pared down version of the GF1, looks like its aimed more at beginners. I just sold my GF1 to buy an X1. The GF1 was great but didnt compare on IQ with my X1. I really dont think you can compare the two though, they are so different. Interchangeable 4/3rds v fixed lens AP-S. Screen is much better on the GF1 though! Â Allan
