jaapv Posted November 2, 2010 Share #1 Posted November 2, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) So I took the brand-new M9 I got as a loaner on a trek through Mozambique, Malawi and Zambia. As expected, it didn't miss a beat. The sensor stayed clean after I had removed the initial dust, with only a regular blow with Giotto's rocket blower from time to time, still my favorite when on the road in dry conditions. Rangefinder was spot-on and stayed so. Used it with the Visoflex and Telyt V 280 for wildlife, although I was quite unlucky with gameviewing - the worst in over 20 years I'm glad I didn't drag the heavy DMR stuff with me. The only fault was a lame "Bodendeckelverrieglungshebel" ( Bottom plate lock lever). My M8u, that I wanted to use for IR wildlife, however, decided to give up the ghost with a shutter drive blocked error . End of IR ambitions... Better luck next year. Furthermore my Summilux 50 asph developed a bit of play in the barrel, but was still perfectly usable. I think that this is pretty much what one can expect when using this gear heavily on bumpy journeys. It was similar when using R or Canon gear, I as I did in the past. Most worked brilliantly, but some stuff had problems, reason for backups. A few thousand images to work through... I'll post some in the Photoforums in due course. Once home I found my M9 still didn't have its sensor board replaced, due to lack of spare parts, but it should come in next week.

D&A Posted November 4, 2010 Share #7 Posted November 4, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Jaap, Also looking forward to seeing your images! Just a question. When you mentioned some "play" in the 50mm Lux asph....were you refering to wobble (play) in the barrel of the lens or play in the focusing ring. Just curious. Thanks! Dave (D&A) Not so much wobble, but loose feeling, rotational movement in the barrel.
D&A Posted November 5, 2010 Share #10 Posted November 5, 2010 Thanks for your response Jaap! I asked since I've heard of the occasional "play" in the focusing ring of a few 50mm Lux asph and wasn't sure if yours might have had this issue.
