tcrown Posted October 21, 2010 Share #1 Posted October 21, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, I am a long time Leica user and I almost saved up to last penny to purchase a new Leica X1. I found many dealers that may carry and offer preorder on X1 Black, but none of the places have them in stock. Does anyone here received their Black version yet? If so, how does it feel when you grab it in your hand, my hand gets slippery sometimes and I had some tough times getting used to DL3, DL4, and DL5. Is it a leather material on X1? Sincerely, TC
Advertisement Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 Hi tcrown, Take a look here X1 Black?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lostinspb Posted October 22, 2010 Share #2 Posted October 22, 2010 I have one on order as well. It is coming directly from the source and I was told it should arrive in about 3 weeks to 1 month. I was also told that the grip is not leather, but rather a a different vulcanite. From my experience with the silver version and having owned the D-Lux 4, the X1 is much easier to hold. The slippery flat surface on the D-Lux 4 made it a wonder I did not drop the thing.
h00ligan Posted October 22, 2010 Share #3 Posted October 22, 2010 If you have medium size or small hands the addon grip will help a lot. I have relatively large hands and it was an improvement, but not enough for the cost. I do think if my hands wre smaller it would have been much better. I thought all the dealerships receive them directly from Solm, Germany? TC

Nicoleica Posted October 23, 2010 Share #6 Posted October 23, 2010 Directly from Japan I think? Ooooo! That's going to get a few reactions I think. I'm going to make some popcorn and nibbles. You are definitely leading the pack in this year's 'Wooden Spoon' awards.
Moritz Posted October 23, 2010 Share #7 Posted October 23, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Directly from Japan I think? Nope. The X1 is made in Germany. And the black X1 is a beauty. Best Regards Moritz

If so it will be the self assembly kit version, not recommended!"

I have a dlux4 and am seriously considering a black x1..
lostinspb Posted October 25, 2010 Share #11 Posted October 25, 2010 How would you compare image quality between dlux 4 and x1? Like night and day? I have a dlux4 and am seriously considering a black x1.. Let me preface this by saying the D-Lux 4 was a great camera for me. That being said, the images of the X1 are fantastic. They seem to have more depth and better color to them which I would attribute to the larger sensor and the resulting increase in dynamic range. In good daylight, both will do a great job. However, when it comes to low light or indoors, the difference becomes quite dramatic. Personally, after shooting with the X1, I could not go back to a smaller senor camera. albertobari Posted October 26, 2010 Share #12 Posted October 26, 2010 Have you notice about X1 Black arrival? From dealers no news! Thanks, Alberto
tcrown Posted October 26, 2010 Author Share #13 Posted October 26, 2010 I am considering Black over steel grey. I see many users complaining about the quality control on steel greys. h00ligan Posted October 27, 2010 Share #14 Posted October 27, 2010 Five going on six months..for all the faults that the x1 may have, no skin peeling for me..and I live in the middle of one of the hottest deserts going.
jsrockit Posted October 27, 2010 Share #15 Posted October 27, 2010 I have the peeling skin issue, but I'm not going to get a camera serviced for that reason alone... Leica NJ will probably keep it for 3 months.
Phenic Posted October 27, 2010 Share #16 Posted October 27, 2010 I don't have the skin peeling issue but I just got mine. phancj can give a better answer as I think he lives in a hot tropical humid climate and that would accelerate the degradation of the glue. jsrockit Posted October 27, 2010 Share #17 Posted October 27, 2010 I live in NYC and have the peeling issue... it's only a matter of time with the early models.
phancj Posted October 28, 2010 Share #18 Posted October 28, 2010 I live in NYC and have the peeling issue... it's only a matter of time with the early models. Instead of black, Leica can consider a skinless version for those who are concerned with lifting vulcanite.
h00ligan Posted October 28, 2010 Share #19 Posted October 28, 2010 cj, they would charge $500 more though.
phancj Posted October 28, 2010 Share #20 Posted October 28, 2010 cj, they would charge $500 more though. Edward, I am not sure what lies beneath the vulcanite, like screws, etc, etc. Say if I am still using the X1 when the vulcanite peels badly, what I may do is just to rip all the vulcanite off, then use epoxy/enamel black and apply in all the areas originally with vulcanite. The as the epoxy/enamel is drying, I will apply texture so it maintains good grip. For the fashion conscious any color can be applied... I wouldnt worry about the vulcanite, the X1 is a great camera for taking pictures, in fact, I dropped mine twice with only a small dent at the bottom edge no biggie.
