msbel Posted October 9, 2010 Share #1  Posted October 9, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Looks like they are thinking about it.  Lensmate: Lensmate Leica X1 Two-Part Adapter and Hood  Dunno. Would you use it? They have an email opt-in box to gage interest. Seems clumsy when contrasted to the design of the camera.  Using a polarizing filter on this puppy would be cool though... Guest MartinMann Posted October 9, 2010 Share #2 Â Posted October 9, 2010 Whats about the Price? Between 399 and 599 ??
johnbailey Posted October 9, 2010 Share #3  Posted October 9, 2010 I have regIstered interest for three reasons:  Gives me a lens hood  I can use a polarizing filter  Permanently attached with a skylight filter it will protect the front element and stop grit getting into the barrrel - this was what caused my GR1s to pack up a few years ago and i understand a bain of this type of camera design.  ....depending on pricing though. jankap Posted October 9, 2010 Share #4 Â Posted October 9, 2010 Clumsy, ok, but a polafilter is useful. The same kind of adapter holds for the Sigma DP1 or the Dlux-4. Jan
h00ligan Posted October 9, 2010 Share #5 Â Posted October 9, 2010 Whats about the Price? Between 399 and 599 ?? Â It's not leica branded, so it wont be 10x more expensive than the other versions selling for $59. Â Yes, I would buy it for $60, I agree it's not a perfect solution but once it's in place it's not going to add any real weight and filters would be really nice to use for land/cityscape shots. JanCderidder Posted October 9, 2010 Share #6 Â Posted October 9, 2010 although folk say that the X1 doesn't need a lens hood, I don't agree. Looking forward to purchasing this item... as long as it isn't stupidly expensive which I don't think it will be actually

JeTexas Posted October 9, 2010 Share #8  Posted October 9, 2010 Leica X1 by ffacker, on Flickr  Nikon UR-E8 lens tube = $9 49 - 52 mm stepup adapter = $5 Epoxy to attach adapter to tube = $5 (The adapter tube has the correct 50mm threading to screw on to the X1 but has reverse threading at the other end. The 49mm ring fits just inside it, so it can be easily glued into place.) Quantaray circular polarizer = $30 52 - 49 mm stepdown adapter = $2 49mm M style vented hood = $9  The downside to the UR-E8 adapter tube is it's a little longer than it needs to be, so if you attempt to use a teleconverter you get major vignetting. earleygallery Posted October 9, 2010 Share #10 Â Posted October 9, 2010 Why do they keep mentioning the 'Samsung' lens cap? I take it the lens was produced by Samsung in that case? Â Anyway - the above contraptions prove that Leica should have designed a proper fixed mount/barrel lens with a proper filter thread in the first place. It would have been more compact too. msbel Posted October 10, 2010 Author Share #11  Posted October 10, 2010 Why do they keep mentioning the 'Samsung' lens cap? I take it the lens was produced by Samsung in that case? LOL. No, I think they cut and pasted text from the Samsung EX page. Sloppy.

JeTexas Posted October 16, 2010 Share #13  Posted October 16, 2010 Would a macro filter work / make a difference? John  Yes. I built a Macro converter using the outer element of a Nikon lens. However, you have to manual focus.
Photojazz Posted October 16, 2010 Share #14 Â Posted October 16, 2010 now if someone could convert a 50.00 golf scope into a optical viewfinder, and fashion it to the hot shoe, we'd have officially the most cobbled up pos since the Polaroid.
h00ligan Posted October 16, 2010 Share #15 Â Posted October 16, 2010 I dint think the lens mate is too cobbled up. They make a nice product at a good price and by the time a filter or similar is fitted it looks relatively oem IMO. The only give away is the 'double barrel'. Â I'm in for one of these as soon as they are made. Â Yes. I built a Macro converter using the outer element of a Nikon lens. However, you have to manual focus. Â Would you mind terribly posting a pic from this setup. I have one of thoses magnifying addons for my dslr (don't recall the brand just now) and the exults were really great ...especially vs the cost. h00ligan Posted October 16, 2010 Share #17 Â Posted October 16, 2010 It's my understanding that since the x1 is a phase detection system we can buy a very nice linear polarizer, not circular for a lot less than even a so so circular and from what I see linear yields better results.. Is that correct?
JeTexas Posted October 18, 2010 Share #18 Â Posted October 18, 2010 Where did You buy the parts? I cannot find a dealer here who offers them... Â Everything except the Quantaray filter was from eBay. I bought the filter at Wolf Camera.
jsrockit Posted October 18, 2010 Share #19 Â Posted October 18, 2010 I really don't get the appeal of this at all. Sure, I'd like a hood... but not one that looks like I stuck a big SLR lens on my small X1.
jorismichielsen Posted October 19, 2010 Share #20 Â Posted October 19, 2010 I agree with jsrockit. It ruins one of the strengths of the X1: portability. The lensmate hood looks the most compact, but still I would put on my X1 only in case of real need.
