Advertisement Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 Hi dickgrafixstop, Take a look here interesting comparison x1 - x100. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted October 3, 2010 Share #2 Â Posted October 3, 2010 Why are they comparing this as yet non-existent camera with an M9, which is in an entirely different league all together? Â Because it looks a bit like an M that's been left in a warm oven for too long?
nippa Posted October 3, 2010 Share #3 Â Posted October 3, 2010 A couple of years ago I visited Digital Rev in Hong Kong to buy the latest Nikon compact (P6000 IIRC) as agreed over the iternet. Their internet promotion and banner advertising is very effective and this X100 diatribe is clearly part of that process , however the store in Star House was much smaller than expected and they didn't have my camera:mad:. Â Unless Fuji come out with a killer lens I can't see Leica being worried.
nhabedi Posted October 3, 2010 Share #4 Â Posted October 3, 2010 I find it hard to take someone seriously who complains about the X1 not having a movie mode. This obviously isn't a comparison. Â I don't think it is completely off the hook to compare the M9 with the X100, though. True, the X100 won't have interchangeable lenses, it will have a smaller sensor, it won't be a rangefinder, and so on. Still, I could imagine that many photographers who can't afford an M9 or could afford one but don't want to spend the money for it, would consider the X100 as an alternative, or maybe as a second camera in addition to the M9. To me it seems pretty clear that this is where Fujifilm will try to find the customers for their new camera. Whether they'll succeed, we'll see. earleygallery Posted October 3, 2010 Share #5 Â Posted October 3, 2010 Let's save the comparisons until we can see the only thing that should really matter, the images. Â On paper there's no doubt that the Fuji is very appealing for anyone who wants a digital camera in a 'traditional' compact camera style package - which the X1 sadly isn't. Â I can't see anyone buying the Fuji instead of an M9, but should appeal as a lower cost stepping stone to Leica rangefinder photography and eat into the sales of 2nd/backup bodies. phancj Posted October 4, 2010 Share #7 Â Posted October 4, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) It all a bad joke. Â I suggested similar comparison: Â Nikon D3x Canon 1Ds Mk 4 vs Coolpix 2000 Patek Phillipe vs Rolex vs casio. Â Think M9 is way a different league to be put together? Writer appears biased, without mentioning the S2, M9 and X1 as not rebranded Pannys. Article on the whole appears slanted when read by a person not in the know. There's even a suggestion that Leica R&D does nothing. Â The X1/X100 is in the approx same market segment, M9 in another. Totally different. As is the S2. Â Rangefinder the X1 and the X100 arent. Period. Â Might as well put more cameras in the basket, since all of them take pictures? Â haha.
jsrockit Posted October 4, 2010 Share #8 Â Posted October 4, 2010 I don't think the comparison is a bad one... since these are the three most appealing camera concepts to me. Unfortunately, the writer is just a Leica hater and cannot be taken seriously.
davidhunternyc Posted October 6, 2010 Share #9 Â Posted October 6, 2010 Yes, what an odd article; comparing a camera that is not even made yet to existing Leica's. I have an X1 and I love it. With that said, I hope the X100 is a X1 killer. Why not hope to have cameras that build upon and are better than the previous generation? If the X100 is a better camera (by that I mean, take better photos) than hopefully it will spur Leica on to up the ante. It is all good guys. Better cameras should always be encouraged. I personally am not enthusiastic about video on cameras and I hope Fuji does not put a trash can icon on the back. A trash can on the back of a camera is like scratching on a chalk board. Â It is the ceaseless blabbering about something that is non-existent therefore no comparison can be made, but many still insisting on doing so. Â I also hope it is better so Leica can up the ante, but if it tanks then Leica can then sit back on their a&^^S and gloat. So it cuts both ways? Â The nex was touted as THE X1 killer, but it was full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. Â I learnt not to be hyped about anything, so I will be happy with it when it arrives. No over-enthusiasm since it always leads to over-expectation. Â I bought the X1 as a trial of Leica cams, and I love it as it exceeded my expectations by far (maybe I had little to start with?) davidhunternyc Posted October 6, 2010 Share #11 Â Posted October 6, 2010 X2. I agree completely. The only expectations that I was let down by with my X1, was the build quality. Too much plastic and so forth. The image quality, which is really all the matters, exceeded my expectations, though. In the end, this is all the matters. Design is a hit, controls and placement and materials a hit. The vulcanite with the peeling in some -a miss, the black lens barrel miss. Whats worse is the actual barrel is aluminium (metal) and they chose to anodize it black??!! But generally, I would say that the build quality is nice, not sure if its worth the price tag though. Â But the IQ is worth every cent haha.
davidhunternyc Posted October 6, 2010 Share #13 Â Posted October 6, 2010 Well, the outside of the barrel is aluminum, the telescoping part is plastic. It feels like a Playskool toy.

Guest badbob Posted October 8, 2010 Share #16 Â Posted October 8, 2010 The future X100 is too big. The X1 is stretching the concept of "compact" camera somewhat, but the X100 is more comparable to the M9 in size. People who are thinking price and feature set only will of course ignore the size difference, but it will become more apparent when the X100 hits the shelf. The X1 is stretching the concept of "compact" camera somewhat, but the X100 is more comparable to the M9 in size. Â The X100 has about the size of a Leica CL. Size comparisons make only sense if you compare apples with apples and oranges with oranges. If you don't care about a built-in viewfinder then - yes - there are a several great cameras to be had that are smaller. If you consider, though, that the most interesting feature of the X100 is the viewfinder, you should compare its size to other digital cameras with built-in viewfinders or with compacts with an external viewfinder attached. Â Add the viewfinder and the hand grip to the X1 and it doesn't look so small anymore. (And one more thing I have to say: While the X1 alone is a real beauty, I think the hand grip is an abomination. Yuk!)

cheewai_m6 Posted October 12, 2010 Share #20 Â Posted October 12, 2010 i think a trend in retro digital camera will be starting soon, if the trend hasn't started already, nikon and canon will make dslr cameras that look like the old cameras, like the FM, FE etc. same finish and body, but digital. my guess is that will be the next thing to get popular. of course, leica has been doing this since m8.
