Advertisement Posted September 19, 2010 Posted September 19, 2010 Hi osscat, Take a look here Zorki 4K Jupiter 8 f2 ?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
tüdelband Posted September 19, 2010 Share #2 Posted September 19, 2010 The Jupiter 8/2 is a copy of the Pre-WorldWar II Zeiss Sonnar and a very good lens. But there are many Variations. The older, silver ones, are better. Some have Problems with Back- or Frontfocus but it is easy to fix. Here's a good example for its Look: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/menschen/139654-erm%C3%BCdet.html For low budget the 4K is maybe a good deal too. Lookm at google, there are many sites and informations about this camera/lens. RF has an own Russian Camerasection http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?forumid=
luigi bertolotti Posted September 19, 2010 Share #3 Posted September 19, 2010 Was my first RF set !!! Bought in 1975 and used until 1983 when bought my first Leica !!! Nice combo (and nice times of my youth... )... I got also the 135 f4 Jupiter 11, another Zeiss copy, also good.
Nicoleica Posted September 19, 2010 Share #4 Posted September 19, 2010 I have and use a Zorki 4K with a Jupiter 8. I think it's quite a nice little camera and lens. The rangefinder is nowhere near as good as a Leica one, but it's quite useable. And as I've mentioned in another thread recently, it does have built-in diopter correction. Xmas Posted September 19, 2010 Share #5 Posted September 19, 2010 Hi They are nice lenses have their own signature but may have been treated badly. They need a hood, they use a 40.5mm filter thread. Some people buy a Nicca (Barnack III clone) for the LTM Nikkor f/2 (also a Sonnar clone), that comes with it. Much nicer build standard but the J8 can be nearly as good. osscat Posted September 19, 2010 Author Share #6 Posted September 19, 2010 Thanks everyone - from the look of some photos I have been viewing the lens can produce some wonderful results. The reason I am asking is I just bought a 4K complete with lens and leather case off EBay for £15 ($24) I am quite looking forward to playing with it - must dust off the Weston Master V or see if my internal light meter still works, the brain is still attuned to 400 ASA - just. Hope the camera works too - still, its not a lot-a-dosh to risk. Osscat I wonder if I will be allowed to post results in the photo forum?
earleygallery Posted September 19, 2010 Share #7 Posted September 19, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have one, paid about the same at a camera fair for mine, and it's a very useable camera and lens, I think you might be surprised by it. The forum rules are that Leica equipment must be used but those rules are often broken.....better to post on RFF or flickr and post a link in this thread IMHO. Xmas Posted September 20, 2010 Share #8 Posted September 20, 2010 Hi You need to ignore threads with Z or C words in them (Zeiss and Cosina). Red Dot has a photo comp sponsored by Leica, but I could not really enter cause only a small % of mine are all Leica. Noel
Guest Ron (Netherlands) Posted September 20, 2010 Share #9 Posted September 20, 2010 Have used all the different Jupiter 8 types, black, chrome, tabbed ones (see my little collection below). In the collection are also the Industars, which I like better, the later ones have f-click stops, the jupiters have not, and I like the rendering better, but that is very personal. The industars 61 have lathanum glass which provides nice contrasty and sharp pictures. Most of these lenses are about USD 20, so you can easy try some without going wrong. see here http://www.xs4all.nl/~kpmg0072/Leica/IMG_4575.JPG
luigi bertolotti Posted September 20, 2010 Share #10 Posted September 20, 2010 Nice collection !!! I like a lot the Cyrillyc fonts... : you made me remember that at my "Zorky times" I had also a 85 f 2 ... do not remember its denomination...
osscat Posted September 20, 2010 Author Share #11 Posted September 20, 2010 I am really looking forward to using this camera, the model seems to have gained great affection from its owners which bodes well. This is the little beauty taken from the auction site. Osscat Welcome, dear visitor! andybarton Posted September 21, 2010 Share #12 Posted September 21, 2010 I wonder if I will be allowed to post results in the photo forum? No. One element of the camera and lens must be made by Leica.
osscat Posted September 21, 2010 Author Share #13 Posted September 21, 2010 No. One element of the camera and lens must be made by Leica. meanie - its the photographer not his equipment don't y'know Osscat I have it now, so after a clean I will put a film through it, the results of which I will not show you, so there -- thhrrrpbb:rolleyes:
osscat Posted September 21, 2010 Author Share #14 Posted September 21, 2010 Just a thought - if I paint a red dot on the front will that be OK? Osscat
andybarton Posted September 21, 2010 Share #15 Posted September 21, 2010 meanie - its the photographer not his equipment don't y'know This is the Leica forum. It does what is says on the tin It would be exactly the same if you had a Reid with a Cooke lens. There are plenty of places to share your work on line with cameras of other brands. osscat Posted September 21, 2010 Author Share #16 Posted September 21, 2010 Well then, if I took a photo of a print from the Zorki with my Leica would that break the rules too?
tüdelband Posted September 21, 2010 Share #17 Posted September 21, 2010 Upload it at ex. flickr and post the Link here. Or use a Leicabody with the lens and a Leicalens with the Zorki and everything is ok.
Xmas Posted September 21, 2010 Share #18 Posted September 21, 2010 Well then, if I took a photo of a print from the Zorki with my Leica would that break the rules too? Take a photo of the Leica with the Zorki (say you are using the self timer) and invert it and say it is a mirror shot. But you are trolling no one will be able to tell what camera you took the photos with and after a while you will have forgotten yourself. Ivor of Red Dot wanted me to enter his competition, I'm not sure I can cause he needs 100% Leica shots, and I'm never sure. Noel

andybarton Posted September 21, 2010 Share #20 Posted September 21, 2010 What is the point of having a Leica-dedicated forum, where any old photographs are allowed to be shared? None. I have photographs that I take which have no Leica content. I don't show them here, but on Flickr, or my own website.
