I bought a D-Lux 4 Titan in Thailand and found later that the plate under the camera printed "LEICA CAMERA GERMANY" with a smaller letter printed "Made in Japan". This cutting me off so much because I expected that I would have a Leica camera that "Made in Germany". How can customer be confided that camera made in Japan will be the same quality with the same material as camera made in Germany.

...disgraceful, isn't it, hoochiekoo? Mine came without headphones. So I wrote to Mercedes, demanding a matching straitjacket. No one messes with me.

An equally silly story happened to me in Germany, about 4 decades ago. I was advised that it was best to purchase a new asian camera in New York, then trade it in Germany for a Leica. After all "everyone knows that the best cameras are imported". LOL. I guess what IS true is that the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.

Funny, I have Leica products made in Japan, Canada, Portugal, and even Germany. They all work quite well.

I don't worry about where it is made as long as the sample I'm using is up to the Leica standard, I am happy.

Same for me. Design, materials, and QC are what matter, and none of these are the exclusive property of any nationality or culture.
