hoochiekoo Posted September 17, 2010 Share #1 Posted September 17, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I bought a D-Lux 4 Titan in Thailand and found later that the plate under the camera printed "LEICA CAMERA GERMANY" with a smaller letter printed "Made in Japan". This cutting me off so much because I expected that I would have a Leica camera that "Made in Germany". How can customer be confided that camera made in Japan will be the same quality with the same material as camera made in Germany.

earleygallery Posted September 18, 2010 Share #4 Posted September 18, 2010 you are aware that the d-lux is made by panasonic and not by leica? Clearly not! I doubt they realise that it's not actually made from Titanium either......
Bo_Lorentzen Posted September 18, 2010 Share #5 Posted September 18, 2010 WHAT.. its not a titanium camera..? I thought it as painstakingly milled from a solid brick of Titanium, much like $20.000 watches. .
bill Posted September 18, 2010 Share #6 Posted September 18, 2010 It's embossed titanium... Regards, Bill
hamey Posted September 19, 2010 Share #7 Posted September 19, 2010 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) You should consider yourself lucky, Those famous three words...... MADE IN JAPAN. Nowdays I actually prefer it to those made in Germany, and IMHO their products are of higher quality and more reliable. Ken. So I wrote to Mercedes, demanding a matching straitjacket. No one messes with me.
k_g_wolf ✝ Posted September 19, 2010 Share #9 Posted September 19, 2010 ... Be glad it´s not made in >>P. R. C.<< Take photos with your camera and do not get fed up with it, it is a fine product. PANASONIC knows what they do. Best wishes. GEORG
ismon Posted September 19, 2010 Share #10 Posted September 19, 2010 An equally silly story happened to me in Germany, about 4 decades ago. I was advised that it was best to purchase a new asian camera in New York, then trade it in Germany for a Leica. After all "everyone knows that the best cameras are imported". LOL. I guess what IS true is that the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.
anabasis Posted September 19, 2010 Share #11 Posted September 19, 2010 Funny, I have Leica products made in Japan, Canada, Portugal, and even Germany. They all work quite well. I don't worry about where it is made as long as the sample I'm using is up to the Leica standard, I am happy. Jeremy

Design, materials, and QC are what matter, and none of these are the exclusive property of any nationality or culture.
earleygallery Posted September 19, 2010 Share #13 Posted September 19, 2010 Actually there is a reason why the Japanese make much better electronic goods than the Germans......
