jaapv Posted September 9, 2010 Share #1 Posted September 9, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Walked into my local Leica dealer today. He had a mint M6 he said. It turned out to be a (mintish) M6TTL, black, so not to my taste. To my amazement he went into the back and came out with a factory-new M6 classic, never used. He asked a reasonable price imo. He had one more he said, plus a number of M6TTLs and R8s, all straight from the factory. So I walked out with a beautiful M6 classic, bright chrome, never seen a roll of film, with five years factory guaranty...:)

wda Posted September 9, 2010 Share #2 Posted September 9, 2010 Congratulations, Jaapv. One of life's genuine surprises. I wonder what other 'goodies' lurk in dealers' back rooms?

menos I M6 Posted September 10, 2010 Share #10 Posted September 10, 2010 Cameraexpress, under 1100 Euro. Whooooaaaahh! Ok - this is not fair - this is just not fair! Congratulations Jaap. I use my M8.2 most of the time now. Everytime, I shoot with the M6 classic, I am quite annoyed by the much more finder flare, the M6 had. Is this an issue? Are there inexpensive upgrades? I really enjoy my M6 otherwise - the smoother film advance, the great little shutter dial, the weight and size opposed to the M8.2, …

jaapv Posted September 10, 2010 Author Share #12 Posted September 10, 2010 I made a mistake with the guaranty. I got 5 years on the new R8 I bought there a few months ago. However the M6 seems to be "just";) two years factory guaranty. anyway, for whomever is interested: there is one left: De GROOTSTE kamerawinkel van Nederland! Compleet op het gebied van fotografie en video - alle bekende merken voordelig kopen bij Kamera-Express.nl Strangely enough they offer a used one at 500 Euros more on the same page.
Doc Henry Posted September 10, 2010 Share #13 Posted September 10, 2010 Jaap , It's a good price especially for a new camera There remain other at this price ? You're gonna change with your M9 on how to take pictures Good photos Henry
jaapv Posted September 10, 2010 Author Share #14 Posted September 10, 2010 It will be the camera when I am in a film mood. I bought my first M6 when it was just out, 1983 or 84. Paid 3000 DM for it. I sold it sometime in the very early nineties. I had forgotten what a nice camera it is, everything about it is just right ( except the shuttertime dial;)) Returning to it was like putting on an old pair of slippers :)
michali Posted September 10, 2010 Share #15 Posted September 10, 2010 Well done & nice one Jaap! Backup for the M9 in Africa? I bought a mint M6 black chrome classic last year in the UK about the same price. I carry it with me as backup as I will not take both M9s with me on a trip, especially as I'm spending 2 days in Nairobbery Kenya before heading into the wilderness for 3 weeks; Kenya, Tanzania & Botswana from next week. jaapv Posted September 10, 2010 Author Share #16 Posted September 10, 2010 No, Mike I'll take an M8 for backup, as I want to experiment with IR safari photographs. I'll be off to Mozambique, Malawi and Zambia in three weeks time. Maybe we'll run across one another on some airsrip somewhere...

Nicoleica Posted September 10, 2010 Share #19 Posted September 10, 2010 Congratulations on your find Jaap. Next time you visit the store, it can be worthwhile having a rummage in their 'old junk' bins. Especially if you are looking for leather cases. Last year I found an original burgundy leather case for my F3 buried in a bin there. It was in beautiful condition and only required a few minutes work with some hide food and polish to bring it back to 'as new' condition. This was a real bargain, as when I asked the price, the young lad told me 'Modern cameras don't fit those old cases lady, give me €2 for it.'. Trying hard not to show my elation, I handed over the money and departed rapidly.
jaapv Posted September 10, 2010 Author Share #20 Posted September 10, 2010 I'm afraid they dragged off all their odds and ends to a couple of camera fairs - not much left
