Robinyuill Posted September 5, 2010 Share #1 Posted September 5, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi there. Found this on some images I took while on a trip. Must admit this is on some selective enlargement but I wondered if this is a common result. This is a loan M8 as mine is away for a new sensor. Taken on DNG with 50mm Summicron. Anyone any suggestions before I return it to the dealer? Regards...Robin.

lct Posted September 5, 2010 Share #2 Posted September 5, 2010 Looks like moiré at first glance. If it proves to be true there is little you can do to prevent it as it is due to the lack of AA filter on the M8 sensor.
mjh Posted September 5, 2010 Share #3 Posted September 5, 2010 That’s color moiré – some raw converters are better at removing it than others. As the M8 (and the M9, the S1, and the DMR) doesn’t have an antialiasing filter, moiré is something one has to live with (and to deal with in software). CharlesL Posted September 9, 2010 Share #4 Posted September 9, 2010 Would a polarizing filter help in this case of reflection off water?
Nicoleica Posted September 9, 2010 Share #5 Posted September 9, 2010 Would a polarizing filter help in this case of reflection off water? Possibly, as it might help remove the high contrast lines, but you would also probably then loose the reflection of the hillside too. When I have encountered this with my M8, I found that different RAW processors made quite a difference. After some experimenting I was able to get rid of it almost completely, but it can be a pain to find the right settings that suit your individual tastes. Strangely enough, the in-camera JPEG processor in the M8 seem to handle colour moire very well, and I've found that in most cases the M8 JPG files show hardly a trace of it.
