sfage Posted September 3, 2010 Share #1 Posted September 3, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I appear to have a little bit of fungus in my cron R 50. Does anyone know where and how much?

farnz Posted September 4, 2010 Share #3 Posted September 4, 2010 Okay ... I'll play: on the surface of the lens elements and enough that you've noticed it. You'll have to give us a clue which your country you're in before we can help. It's unlikely that Leica will touch it because of the risk of the fungus spreading to other lenses. Pete. topoxforddoc Posted September 5, 2010 Share #5 Posted September 5, 2010 Sfage, 50 crons for R mounts are pretty cheap (for Leica, that is). There aren't many people who would want to touch a lens with fungus and I wouldn't want to keep one in the cupboard with my other lenses. The cost of dis-assembling a 50 cron, treating the fungus, polishing the element that's damaged and rebuilding can't be far off the cost of getting another used one. sfage Posted September 5, 2010 Author Share #6 Posted September 5, 2010 Yeah, that's kind of what I was imagining would happen. Thanks
sfage Posted September 5, 2010 Author Share #7 Posted September 5, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Here's a shot of the lens. I have set up the lights so that you can see what's behind the front element.
Tony Smith Posted September 5, 2010 Share #8 Posted September 5, 2010 Phone Optical Instruments (Balham) Ltd on 020 8664 9799 and ask for Tom he will treat and clean your lens and will come back like new. He has just dealt with a 180 R f4, 135 R, and a 50 sum. for me. No one lens cost more than about £80! He is your man. Tony Smith
sfage Posted September 6, 2010 Author Share #9 Posted September 6, 2010 Thanks Tony. I think I'll do that before it gets much worse.
sfage Posted September 9, 2010 Author Share #10 Posted September 9, 2010 I found a guy here that says he'll do it for $90 Cdn. I would like this done properly and I only want to do this once. I am even prepared to pay him extra. Do any of you have advice for some 'specific' things I should ask him to address? I don't care if I have to pay him double. I want it done properly right now because I never know where I am going to be next week. Things come up, I pack my bags and I am gone. Naturally, I can't fool around when I am out shooting. I work in some very nasty environments... I need to focus quickly and get the hell out of there.
