Valau Posted September 1, 2010 Share #21 Posted September 1, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Andy, Glad it is working again, I have this problem, it happens with either of my batteries just after charging them (one is new and the other about a year old). If they are left for a while or the shutter release is 'fired' a few times the camera comes to life. Personally I think it is the charger, mine is the original 'large' charger that came with the camera. If you want to live dangerously this evening then charge the new battery and try it again in the camera! Following your progress with great interest, my camera is still under its 'passport' so if you find the problem I will be onto Leica to sort my camera! Regards, David

bonjac Posted October 26, 2010 Share #23 Posted October 26, 2010 Andy, Just read your thread about dead m8.2 and the battery issues. Did you ever get is resolved? I am having the same problem and could really use some advice.

lct Posted June 5, 2011 Share #25 Posted June 5, 2011 Did you try letting batteries drain down to 0% when you got the same problems last year?
andym911 Posted June 5, 2011 Author Share #26 Posted June 5, 2011 yes my battery was completely drained.....charged it up and wanted to continue whooting some stuff this evening....was that a mistake? andy
lct Posted June 5, 2011 Share #27 Posted June 5, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) ...Don't EVER let the battery drain all the way down. It's certain death, in the near future... ...my battery was completely drained.....charged it up and wanted to continue whooting some stuff this evening....was that a mistake?... I'm doing the same with third party batteries, failing which they are not recognized by the battery meter of the M8.2, with no harm so far. It could be a mistake according to Ben's post above (see also Battery University) but full drain is advised by Leica in some circumstances (with new batteries, every 25 cycles and before long storage, see user's manual, page 99 & 155). For now, i would try removing the battery for 2 or 3 days to drain the internal battery of the camera which should cause a full system reset.
pgk Posted June 5, 2011 Share #28 Posted June 5, 2011 Don't EVER let the battery drain all the way down. It's certain death, in the near future. Odd. I've done this many times without problem!
andym911 Posted June 6, 2011 Author Share #29 Posted June 6, 2011 just spoke with CS at Leica and they reccommend the following: 1.Clean both charger and battery contacts with Isopropyl 2.If not successful probably a charger issue and needs to be sent in to CS 3.Leaving the camera w/o battery for a few days to drain will have no effect as the buffer battery would need months to drain completely. keep you posted andy
lct Posted June 6, 2011 Share #30 Posted June 6, 2011 ...3.Leaving the camera w/o battery for a few days to drain will have no effect as the buffer battery would need months to drain completely... Good to know thanks. If your charger is out of warranty you might wish to try a Delkin or a "Doubice" from a member of this forum. I have no experience with the latter but the Delkin works fine with genuine and third party M8 batteries.

lct Posted June 6, 2011 Share #34 Posted June 6, 2011 Hard to believe that 3 batteries are defective but so much the better if the camera works. Please keep us posted about Leica's findings on your charger and batteries.
andym911 Posted June 7, 2011 Author Share #35 Posted June 7, 2011 i agree....very strange that 3 batteries do not work even though they all show fully charged. hope to hear back from solms in a week or so. will keep the post updated andy
LeicaMSeattle Posted June 7, 2011 Share #36 Posted June 7, 2011 Three batteries going bad at the same time? I would suspect intermitted problems with the contacts inside the camera.
