dennersten Posted August 5, 2010 Share #1 Posted August 5, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Please guide me ! I have an almost mint IIIG which i really feel motivated to start to shoot with. It needs badly an SLA. But my first film shoot with it looked nice. The reason that i have some angst is that it looks to good to shot with. Some collector would appreciate it i guess really much. But on the other hand i guess it's not worth that much before a SLA. So what would you guys have done? Best Håkan

UliWer Posted August 5, 2010 Share #2 Posted August 5, 2010 There are lots of IIIg in the second hand market, which are regularly described as "almost mint". It seems as if the IIIg was a camera frequently bought but rarely used. So best you can do, is starting to use it. It was made therefore.
luigi bertolotti Posted August 5, 2010 Share #3 Posted August 5, 2010 Use it, keeping care of it : LTM Leicas are a pleasure to handle, and IIIG is the best of them in usability. The only Leicas which are better not to use regularly are the "collectors' only" which one keeps for the specific reason of collecting rarities: for instance, should your IIIG be a "Swedish 3 Crowns"... ... ok keep it at home and make 6 shots a year just to "move" it.... earleygallery Posted August 5, 2010 Share #4 Posted August 5, 2010 It may be a nice example, but really unless it's a rare/significant version, or absolutely mint and boxed, it's of little interest to serious collectors, and if you're not a collector yourself what's the point in just keeping it and not using it? Either sell it and buy a scruffy one for a little less money that you aren't worried to use, or just use it!!
Pintpot Posted August 5, 2010 Share #5 Posted August 5, 2010 Yes it needs to be used, or at least the shutter needs to be fired at all the speeds from time to time in order tho keep the camera in full working order. No Leica is too good not to be used for its only purpose - to take good photographs! Enjoy using it:)
wizard Posted August 5, 2010 Share #6 Posted August 5, 2010 Put it in an everready case to avoid scratches and dings, but use it. It is a fine camera. Cheers, Andy
dennersten Posted August 5, 2010 Author Share #7 Posted August 5, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Great guys! Thank you everybody. You really convinced me. It's going for SLA tomorrow and it will have an autumn with a lot of films in it :-) And unfortunatley no crowns anywhere on it....
