marcwilson Posted July 27, 2010 Share #1 Posted July 27, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) HI, I am looking at getting a 28/2.8 elmarit and am looking at version III models. Most are leitz but I have come across one that is leica on the front rim not leitz...but still in the type III serial number range. Are there any differences between these? Thanks, Marc
Advertisement Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Hi marcwilson, Take a look here 28/2.8 elmarit version III leitz or leica. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lct Posted July 27, 2010 Share #2 Posted July 27, 2010 I have no experience of this lens sorry. Leitz lenses took the name of Leica in 1988 or 1989 if memory serves. Being the 3rd version, yours has the product number 11804 and perhaps a serial number around 3,5xx,xx or 3,6xx,xxx. The lens kept the same optical formula from 1979 to 1992 but may have received different coatings during its 13 years life and this can play a role on its rendition. The later the better generally. FWIW.
cbretteville Posted July 27, 2010 Share #3 Posted July 27, 2010 It is a good lens, designed by Walter Mandler. I like the way it draws. I had one for a few years and sold it after picking up a 28 Summicron knowing it wouldn't see much use. Mine used 49mm filters and had a rather large twist-on hood. It is a but bulky and larger than the vIV that replaced it. Carl
russell Posted July 29, 2010 Share #4 Posted July 29, 2010 I bought one recently (version III from the 1980s). It draws (or whatever you want to call it) very well. It might have the best draw of any of my lenses! But it's big and slow (f2.8) so it doesn't get as much use.
